I think we all thought Laughton was going to be that guy.

Nah....it was a hole this past offseason and still is. Thought maybe a guy like Backes on a 2 or 3 year deal was something they'd have interest in but looks like their remaining patient and thank god they didn't get into a bidding war for Backes. Prior years for sure.

Cousins is not the long term answer there but I want to see him there going forward this year flanked by Raffl and Read. I don't understand this moving him to wing. He was really good at moving the play out of his own end last year which is what their struggling with now

Calling the Flyers situation and roster scary, is hyperbole from sources that either have a propensity for extreme negativity, and actually enjoys and draw pleasure from situations where the Flyers are struggling. It's that, and also just a plain lack of knowledge of the game and the situations. The Flyers are a team that is on the rise, and is currently dealing with some injuries, some suspensions, and some inconsistent play early. This team is a playoff team in my opinion, that is adding young talent.

People seem to be forgetting the injuries and suspensions so they look at the starting roster tonight and get all end of the world but the reality of it is things are not that dire.
Ghost, TK and Provorov here..Over the next 1-2 years additional youth and talent will show up as the salary cap turns more to their favor..

NAh screw logic..The roster right now today has holes so lets focus on that..

There's time. Did he get a look at center at all in camp or preseason? I don't think he did, its not a viable option based off the coaching decisions

I'm going to take the crazy approach of not judging him til he's played a full season

IMO, he's a 3rd line winger at best

They are an improving franchise for sure. Can't fault the people in here for talking about the games being played now. They are capable of better play which is where frustration is setting in. Slow starts have become a flyer tradition no matter what excuse gets thrown out there. I get the frustration

I'm willing to be somewhat patient, but not for an entire season. I think theyve put him in a bad position. He shouldn't be paired with Streit and he shouldn't be counted on to be a first line defenseman. I expect his play will improve after Gudas and MDZ return

That's true, they were looking at him as a winger. If the conversation was about the center position, then I took that out of context. I'm just looking at Laughton as a whole, and I still think he is going to be a good player.

2010 cup finals.

Heading on to 7 years or so.

I've missed all the first 3 games to work, but this being a meh team is getting old.

Good points, but I still feel the only way they get a playoff spot is via the wild card. But, just get in, and with this crazy game anything is possible.

weise has been suspended before for this. I agree with the decision
- Just5

I'm not saying Weise didn't deserve to get suspended. I'm saying that comparatively, the Virtanen hit was more dirty. Weise's prior suspension was does not fall under the term's of the NHL's repeat offender policy, so it's moot in determining his length of suspension for this hit.

Let's see the Flyers have played 4 games, gotten 3 points.

They have 2 losses by 1 goal and have scored 13 goals in those 4 games (3.25 goals per game).

They're doing this while missing 2 top 4 defensemen, their top line LW(for all but 1 game), playing a 19 year old rookie who a week ago had as many professional games played as the Rocky statue as a 20 minute a night, top pair guy.

I think the torch & pitchforks and nonsense about the team being terrible are way premature.

First, they were not going to be a serious contender this year. I had them pegged as the 3rd place Metro team or a wildcard, myself. They're a few bounces and better officiation from being 3-1-0 right now, despite the issues they have displayed. There's still going to be growing pains. Not just for Konecny & Provorov, but also for Gostisbehere, Cousins, Laughton(assuming he returns to the NHL roster). No need to panic before the full roster has even played a game.

That said there are some concerning issues. The passing and transition game needs to get better. Hakstol's style demands it. If they can't move the puck more efficiently and effectively, the gap control issues that killed them against Anaheim and Chicago will cost them a lot of games. They need to be more aggressive and effective at getting second chance opportunities on the power play. They have been settling for perimeter play too often in the other team's zone.

But these issues are fixable. They won't be a perfect team, but they should be a playoff team. As guys return from suspension and injury, hopefully they can optimize the roster better and correct the stumbling blocks we have seen thus far.

(frank) yeah I do. Perfectly okay with that. Not going to glue myself to the TV to watch a team in another year of a rebuild. If these D prospects dont pan out watch everyone lose their minds.

They will get it going this year. If not, whatever. Still too much poop on the club and a big infusion of talent needed on that back end.

They are still rebuilding. That back end in particular.

Until that is fixed I dont see the need for fury. They are what they are, at the very least I am somewhat excited to see youth play instead of LeCavalier, Umberger.
