4 games is a tiny sample size. So the fact they haven't scored this year isn't a huge deal. But if you go back to last year it is an issue. These guys have to score for the Flyers to be competitive.

Giving up goals in bushels. Very concerning. Everyone keeps saying their # 1 pairing isn't playing. That doesn't hold much weight. It's not like Del Zotto and Gudas are defensive stalwarts.

- PLindbergh31

its not even the dmen, its the overall defensive play as a team. giving up 2, 4, 7 and 3 goals won't win you a lot of hockey games.

I miss the days where the answer to losing was always the same.

Have to throw more pucks on net.

End of story.

Oh the simple days

It is even worse seeing them try to play defensive hockey all game and failing.

Read and Konecky only players earning their pay as of right now.

And Manning. Forgot about him.

Team structure has been suspect. Guys out of position, not supporting each other, as well as issues with puck management, and execution on passing, etc. Needs to be cleaned up. Vandevelde in the lineup isn't the main issue.

i missed the 3rd. the only thing that didn't go the way i thought was the regulation loss. figured it would happen in ot/so.

you can't go 1 for 9283434 on the pp and win.

special teams are hurting them already, on both sides.

gost looked like himself in the wc and in the pre-season. but he has not looked like himself at all since the regular season started. maybe that cut has him thinking and not reacting.

provorov was mostly bad last night, and has struggled a little the last couple of games.

nothing to be alarmed about. these are terrific players. i just didn't want this to happen so early.

4 games in though and i'm already irritated.

i didn't see the entire game. just my take on what i saw. can you elaborate on why you disagree?

i saw him make a few nice plays, to be more fair.

Aside from the Chicago game, where he played poorly, he seems to suffer from Coburnitis. Mostly solid plays, but on the plays where he screws up, it's really noticeable.

i just think it is obvious he is their most skilled defenseman. he makes tons of little plays that help get the puck out of the zone. could he be better? yes. I think there are some issues on defensive breakdowns and obvious gaffes in decision making, but the total package is there. He makes so many strong plays with the puck and keeping plays from developing. To my eyes, he is excelling at getting the puck from the corners, getting the pucks deep and through the neutral zone or out of the defensive zone, so many quick little passes that help transition to offense

Just to illustrate how poorly the Flyers played, here is a graph:

Well, as you can clearly tell, there are lines with peaks, valleys, medians, and means. I think it's pretty clear what the issues are. We need more better graphs to help us win. We can't win by using graphs like this.

Just like last year, there's no way "Varsity" gets this team into the playoffs. You don't lose to junk teams like Chicago and Anaheim in October and then get into the postseason in April. It's literally impossible.

Honestly, the most embarrassing thing about last night wasn't losing. It was getting outshot by a team coached by Randy Carlyle
