Who cares if he would make slightly more? Players get paid more and more every year. Rielly's contract might be looked upon as a bargain in a few years, does that mean you can't hire another player for more money until Rielly's contract is renewed?

I get what you're saying. In a few years would be a few years, I don't think it would be a problem.

The problem I see here is they signed Rielly at 5mx6 heading into this season. To then sign another D of the same age and arguably lower potential to a significantly higher AAV at the start of the same season would be a big slap in the face.

If Trouba will sign for 5.5m, that probably wouldn't cause too much of an issue, but 6m or more?

I don’t think he gets close to $6M on the principle that he doesn’t deserve more than jones/reilly/risto.

$5.2M/year over 6 years is the max I think he should get from anybody.

If he gives them cheap depth and allows them to cut lose a real asset....we might have to thank Holzer for Fowler or Lindholm.
