Are advanced stats actually correct about any defenseman in the NHL whatsoever?

Just saw one comparing Marincin to Fowler, where it makes it look like Fowler is god awful and Marincin is a stud

personally, I'd take Fowler over Marincin 100 times out of 100.

- WingmanWillie

Marincin IS a stud, especially when he gives you this look

To me it is just a small tool with too many inconsistencies on judging a player. Way too many variables not taken into account.

what i loe most about the stats is the dual presumptions that shot attempts are the true measure of quality hockey but goals are utterly random and flukey.
- DoubleDown

When we talk against adv. stats we are uninformed and close minded.

Well, we have beaten to death the goaltending fiasco horse.

We all pretty much agree that the defense as a whole is terrible.
We all pretty much agree that Gardiner is an average Dman, at best.
I think we all agree that the kids are outplaying the vets.
I think we all agree that Marner needs some linemates that can keep up with him.
I think we can all agree that Mathews and Nylander have some work to do figuring out the defensive side.

... there just isn't a lot left to discuss, except maybe advanced stats, or boobs.

yeah, somewhere we went off the rails.

Utterly random!

Given enough time, Every player will score on the same percentage of shots, regardless of quality of competition or goaltending.

Therefore, games should be decided by shots towards the goal. It is the only realistic way to measure the quality of play IMHO.

Oh and a game played by a 1st overall pick has the exact same value as a game played by a 7th round pick. Therefore we can determine the TRUE VALUE of a first overall pick just by looking at average games played by draft round.

Got a note from him, he is stuck in the middle of Hamilton harbour, broken engine. He did catch a Chernobyl like beauty though.

IDK, He might actually be working.

So his car happens to break down while he's pulling in unnaturally large fish? How fortuitous.

Yeah, another close game. Can't complain so far this season, especially with a team full of rookies.
- Zezel

This is me complaining about the goaltending.
