Well I did say Van would be in a lot of 1 goal games. Which end they would be one I didn't know. Didn't know it would be this much. Rather have wins and boring hockey then exciting losses.

Well he has won multiple championships at other levels, so I think he is capable of learning to that extent. He has only been in the league for 2 years and 4 games (and really only 2 training camps due to his surgury last year)

I would also say, lesser coaches have won cups because of the players or circumstance, and some excellent coaches havent won for the same reasons. I also havent seen anything that would give me the slightest indication the three names you mentioned are capable of being the head coach of a Stanley Cup champion. Jarvis has been an assistant his entire career, successful but still only an assistant (if he was capable, surely someone would offer him HC role in the past 20 years?), Malholtra hasnt shown anything more than a faceoff/development coach, and Green has been passed up on several openings so far despite his AHL success

I really dislike this stance. NHL parity exists in the salary cap era, you dont need to be division winners or top 3 in the conference to challenge for the cup. Get in the tournament and anything can happen

2012 LA (8th seed) vs NJ (6th seed)
2013 CHI (1st overall) vs BOS (4th seed) - lockout shortened season
2014 LA (PAC 3rd seed) vs NYR (Metro 2nd seed)
2015 CHI (CEN 3rd seed) vs TB (Atlantic 2nd seed)
2016 SJ (PAC 3rd seed) vs PIT (Metro 2nd seed)

"falsely reaching the playoffs" is about as pessimistic as you can get, discrediting the accomplishment of making the playoffs and the integrity of playing to win. I usually appreciate your reserved and cautious approach, not getting caught up in the hype, but you can draft and develop while learning to play better defensively and win games

- WhiteLie

Yes.... and if you fail cause you tried the consolation is getting a higher draft pick ... its making it the goal that sends the wrong message

First that come to mind: Crawford, Hartley. The 96 and 01 Avalanche were ridiculously stacked with HOF players

Next are a few that I highly doubt you can call tactical: Tortorella, Keenan

Then a few that I personally think are overrated: Carlyle, Bylsma, and I would like to add Sather just based on his roster but I'll be honest I was far too young to really be able to judge his capabilities

Don't forget that Eriksson is a complete bust. A total disaster.

Actually it's not a fact and I'll disagree until the cows come home. Military leaders are educated and trained, the more competent are then singled out for further education and training...unless of course it's nepotism or someones BFF.

The only part of your statement I agree with is that some people have better comprehension and competency, but they are still educated and trained.

- Makita

well its a point....but either way how do you prove it? Hard to quantify for sure.
But if you look at scotty bowman its an excellent example of someone who tweaked constantly. He knew every angle. Every plan that could win. Just plain superior, and his results showed.
Note that he is a consultant for the Hawks. And they've won 3 cups in 6 years since he's been on. Coach Q gets the credit. Another tweaker is Sutter, won 2 cups w LA. Laviolette, prob the better currently tweaker won the cup in a few yrs of NHL. He needs a strong D coach however. Cooper as well in TB. Babcock and carlyle other notables.

True, excellent GM but when it comes to coaching I personally think having Gretzky in the 80's seems entirely unfair as he was unstoppable

EDIT: But like I said, I didnt watch him coach so my call of overrated is just an opinion based on roster and wouldnt argue with anyone that says he was great

This winning streak is going to prove how fickle our fan base is.
We (I) know it's a mirage, but some people might actually think this team is really good .

- Scooby_Doo

Wins are facts not mirages....

What's hard to figure out is that this isn't a new wave young team stocked with high profile players or has league leaders in any position from goaltending defense to center. This is a balanced team at every position .... it's got some depth and stand out talent but what makes it go is how well it plays as a team and not some individual savior to ride their coat tails. So to be really good you have to prove it and that takes time and luck too... like no major injuries... they like any team this season have their work cut out for them ... the difference here is they have to do it as a group and not rely on a couple mega stars.

So enjoy the moment... we don't know what comes next it could be heartache or elation but that's why they play the games

Only in Vancouver do the fans want to fire a coach that is 4-0

At least him lose a bloody game first. ( Not directed at you)

- VANTEL

not exactly banging a drum on that. I know theres nothing happening that way.
As Ive said the changes that the new staff have made are really what Ive been asking for.
I was pointing out hes not a playoff coach....but if we have someone to handle that who cares? I wont care. I just want the right results.

D looks soooo much better btw

Oh god you had the 1 coach that just timed the transition in nhl play perfectly. As teams changed he snuck the win in there. Still cant believe he won. Who did he beat again? Calgary?
I must say there you have the 1 case thats true. But only 1

in the old NHL yes youd be correct. Those 2 would count.
Sakic and forsberg certainly did affect the outcome along with roy and foot etc.

Carlyle is a good strategist. They say Blysmas system is too complicated to follow. Guy won the cup after taking over mid season. Well done.

Just out of curiosity, if Willie wins a cup will he be considered a playoff coach or one that snuck in.
