Sure...you think then WD hasn't been fair with JV...? Guance is needed at 4th line center so he gets a pass on expectation ...?.... don't know he seems to play well... JV to show more should get minutes like Baertchi did to develop scoring touch and threat ... right...?

I have no problem with WD sitting JV. What has he done other than bring that gritty aspect to the lineup that the Canucks are somewhat lacking? Gaunce has been a reliable two-way forward. Something he was NOT his draft+__ years. Gaunce is slowly becoming a reliable player because of his time in Utica and I have no issue with JV sitting in place of Gaunce.

You are right that connections can be made by winning or a young superstar (young superstar would be my plan). But, leadership can also help strengthen those connections too. As much as Burkie pissed me off he was a master of getting our attention even when his team stunk. He generated that excitement even when the outlook was bleak.

And made a hell of a trade to get 2nd and 3rd overall in 99. Thank God he didn’t try to get Patrik Stefan.

Why drafting the right player no matter the position is more important ... maybe BB will be the young super star .... with JB we have a better chance .... but yeah we don't have a big personality type to generate excitement from Linden on down they are all subdued want results to do the talking like the Sedins.... Vancouver is more of a laid back place

Doesn't change the fact that he is not an NHL caliber coach. It would be easier to say that the team battled hard to win those games, more so than WD line deployment. Real coaches would have sat our 4th line and just rolled the 3 lines in the last 5 mins of the game to better come back to tie/win. We deserved those wins, but tying the game with less than 3 mins left is still lucky. Markstrom also won us the OT with those 2 or 3 big saves before our goal. that last save off his stick would go in more often than not.

Oh I agree with you. I still fault him for his line combos and deployments but he still won't get fired 3-0 lol. That I guarantee.

Penalties may be one which one was unnecessary in his 2 games.?
The other are perceived deficiencies in expectation but he did have hits and the drive to the net at NHL level is part of the offense presence we want him to learn .... some think you can do that while playing NHL minutes ... others think more playing time t the AHL will translate over ... don't know ....

I got hated on a few months ago saying the Canucks will have a better start to last year and we were on track for playoffs until we fell off a cliff.

I still think this season we will be playing for a playoffs spot. Even just with the 50-60 extra goals a healthy Sutter, Eriksson and a dope looking Baertschi this year.

I read the posts, see how people make subjective judgments from watching a televised game, that only shows a small aspect of what's really happening on the ice.

Personally I believe that people are like lemmings, 1040 starts a rant about Willie and people swallow like a bunch of hookers in a blow job competition. Then come the armchair GM's and coaches to the different blogs to expound their vast amount of knowledge and experience on how this guy (WD) or that guy (JB) are useless. Did I mention all from the comfort of their chair.

Bloated just said Canuck fans aren't fickle, I disagree, after reading all the posts about WD being inept, screwing with players potential success, line match-ups, not knowing how to adjust, shouldn't be adjusting because fans don't agree with the adjustments, sitting players in the press box (again screwing with their confidence), giving Burrows an "A" as a leader, (only thing he ever lead was a controversy into reffing bias), playing the Sedins too many minutes, have I missed anything. Talk about a fickle group...

If Willie was useless, he wouldn't have the success he has attained, and he wouldn't be where he is today.

Has he made mistakes, absolutely, has he learned from his mistakes, certainly looks like it, but it could also be that he has an actual healthy team instead of 10-14 rookies to draw from.

Last season for sure. This season, give him 10 or 20 games and then re-assess.

I don't think this is true. Players do play below their potential/skill level some seasons. They are human.
