That is just about the worst situation you can find yourself in as a 19 y/o rookie d-man. The most lethal combo in the NHL perhaps, and his mistake was that he went down so early.. Maybe a half second later and its the right play trying to eliminate the pass... They didnt score right there though.. so it was a collective failure on that play.
Him tripping is just a bad break. Should he have chipped it off the boards? Sure. But it wasnt like the guy was right on top of him. He blew a tire (which looked as though was happening all night, maybe bad ice?) and the guy took it in a finished.

His worst play all night was when he tried a no look back pass that handcuffed the forward and led to the 5th goal (i believe). Dont get cute, just drive it in, dump it in, or peel off.

The entire Flyers team and defense was bad last night, Provorov was just the worst. He has an excuse of being a rookie and 19. The Flyers didn't handle the puck well, completely lost their team structure, leading to lots of breakdowns. My point is stating that Provorov was just unlucky last night, is just not true. He made a bunch of mistakes in the game. He wasn't the only one.

I actually watched the game on a delay after my wife went to sleep. I skipped the entire first period having seen the score and my friend texted me and said provorov looked bad towards when the actual game was ending. I therefore was looking at provorov almost the entire rest of the game and I am on the side that is leaning towards bad luck. I think itll be good game to learn and I enjoyed watching the guys say stuff to him to pick him back up.

On almost every play that didnt end up in the back of the net he was sealing off his man. Making good plays to get it out of the zone. Making good passes (they weren't all there i.e. Coots pass) One play specifically Toews came charging in and Provorov followed all the way to the end boards and sandwiched him there.

He couldn't catch a break and was also seeing a lot of time against a pretty damn good line. So while he did have a bad game, I thought just the way things happened ended up making it seem much worse.

I didn't think his decision making was bad. I thought his execution was bad. Seemed like every poor play he made ended up in the back of the net. I don't think any of the defensemen had a good game. MacDonald had a sequence where he fell down back skating and Manning had a sequence where he literally passed the puck directly to a Hawk from behind his own net. Mason ended up bailing him out with a great save.

I think both the second goal where he fell and the 5th where he passed it to Coots are plays that get made pretty routinely. Call me crazy or biased but I really didnt mind him challenging that puck in the neutral zone either. It was right after a Giroux turnover and if it is made the Flyers maybe go the other way. I also think the coverage behind him could've been better from everyone, but I am willing to live with those mistakes for now

I agree. I want him being aggressive and I don't want him making the easy play and chipping it out unless that's his only option. He's capable of so much more. He's demonstrated a great ability to deny carry-ins, so I'm fine with him being aggressive there as well.

A defenseman leading the rush and attempting an ill advised drop pass are not plays that happen routinely in the NHL. They're plays that will get you burned, your ice time cut, and find yourself on the bench if that happens routinely.
