I agree, but if you are gonna make a play on the rush at the blue line, the pass has to be there. Otherwise you get what happened last night.

He had a rough game. There is no two ways about it. Its okay though. Im sure over the next 15 years he will have another bad game. So will guys like Doughty and Ekblad.

Also, someone on the tweeter pointed out last night (i believe Jsaq) that Doughty was a -17 his rookie season. They all need to learn at some point....

Hell even Bobby Orr made some mistakes as a rookie.

Orr was +30 in 46 games when he was 19. While winning the Norris trophy. When did he learn?

Well yeah, but that was in his 2nd season. Believe it or not, he made a couple rookie mistakes the prior year. However, he still won the Calder.

I was kidding. Just busting stones. Provorov has all the talent in the world, he's a kid. He's going to make mistakes. Just hope it doesn't hurt his confidence.

I think he'll be fine, he seems to be a pretty levelheaded kid.

Giroux gave him a pat on the back on the bench, he'll be ok.

So when Gudas is back for the Buffalo game, what do we want to see on D? I think you keep playing Manning and try and get his 14 games out of the way by the time MDZ is back. Then for the rest of the season you don't have to worry about it.

ManDog is my new favorite player so IDC as long as he, Provorov, and Ghost are in the lineup

I like your top 6, but I want to get Provorov away from Streit, so:

I understand he's a 19 year old rookie, but he played a very poor game. So did Gostisbehere. Defensively, the rest of the team wasn't much better. .....

Saying he didn't do much wrong is entirely inaccurate. He did a lot wrong. Games like this are going to be a part of the learning curve for a 19 year old player. He's going to be a really good player in this league, but he still has a lot of development left to do. I think he'll bounce back.

what I'm seeing is a team with a few new faces and rookies trying to find rapport, goalies will have a tough time getting into any kind of groove if they swap out every night, the rookies will have a lot of bad games, its called growing pains...the first 3 games have looked the same to me, what is good everyone is skating hard

I know for a fact you are either Al Morganti or you just took what he said post game word for word
- YuenglingJagr

Sorry bud, went to bed with 4 minutes left in the game. Really easy play to critique, but some thought it was just being unfortunate.

I'm out of market so know nothing of what Morganti says, nor do I know if what he posted is word-for-word what someone else said (which many of our scouting experts here do all the time, btw) but the comment is pretty much hockey 101 on that particular play.

First goal is Streit making 2 poor plays: 1, not playing defense leading to 2 on 1 and 2, not even covering the post when he was right there. Second goal he lost an edge, just tough. Third goal Read's fault -- that's his man who snuck in. Fourth goal a good rush idea, just passed into the skates of Coots, leads to odd man other way. Fifth the EN.

So, no, he wasn't nearly the hot mess you're making out. In fact, that's the lazy narrative tbh. Just a weird unfortunate game for him. Made his share of mistakes, but nowhere near the level -5 looks like. Just every time he got burned for them or his teammates hung him out to dry. Ghost had every bit as bad a night personally and was even.

- Mononoke

Give me a break, man. There's no objectivity here. People will jump through hoops to defend popular players. Provorov looked bad. The rest of the team did too, but he had a bad night. I'm sure he would say the same.

Therrien said what you said word for word right after the play happened.
