it wasn't guddy who was off their game last night. ben blatantly missed his assignment 3x in the first 40. but he also came thru with the big goal of the game so he gets a pass from me. i expect he'll get a talkin-to and be better, altho he might sit if they give tryamkin a look.
JV is going to constantly have a target on his back. He seems to dish out the hits that can sometimes be borderline penalties but he is going to have to expect to be hit like he was from Bouma. He does bring a certain edge to the Canucks that we don't have with anyone else (excluding DD). - Codes1087
One of the reasons I really like the Brower signing in Calgary is that him being on a line with Tkachuk and Bennett allows the 2 young guys to play a more gritty game, while having someone out there to make sure they will not get beaten down for it.
I think JV is going to be hated by 29 teams and loved by 1. Need those guys on your team.

I expect Hutton to miss assignments and Guddy to cover in that pairing. Hutton needs to continue to expand his offensive role, while Gudbranson was brought it to shore up with some reliable defensive play. The chemistry needs to continue to develop but I like Hutton take more risk in an effort to put up points
He has been thrown into the deep end to some extent and has the confidence of the coach. Everyone is hoping for the best and I guess we should expect the common 2nd season slump or dip in play. ( Gaudreau went around him in that Flames game, but he has gone around more than a few dmen) - hillbillydeluxe
This is another reason I would prefer to see Tanev with Hutton.
I want Hutton to have a green light at all times. I think Edler Gudbranson could be a really solid pairing as well.

You never know with WD, but what kind of idiot sits the only D man with a goal so far on the team ?
It looks like JV is quite not ready. My understanding is that he packed on 20 lbs. of muscle so he may be getting used to his new body. Hard to tell. Really looking forward to seeing what Rodin can do with Bo and Baer. And there is nothing wrong with JV playing with Gaunce and Burrows/Dorsett. I know people are against it, but this team has to roll 4 lines to keep the Sedins fresh over the course of a long season. I know its the Flames and Canes, but so far so good. - Rocket_Launcher
IMO, JV needs to be sent down to the AHL once Rodin is healthy. He needs to play more then 10min a night. He looks lost at times out there, it almost seems like the game is moving too fast for him, you can see he feels the pressure when he has the puck.
I like what JV will bring once he develops further, but right now his mind is behind the play.
The Burrows - Bo - Dorset line worked well. Bo actually played minutes more the first night than the second, he's still shaky defensively and I would say it more of a priority to develop that than points...think in the final tally he was on ice for something like 90 goals last year...

He was also with Higgins and Vrbada a lot last year. They caused a lot of goals against due to being lazy. Also quite a few where someone(often Sedins) did a bad line change and he stepped on and the other team scored. Nothing he can do about that. +/- is a mostly useless stat in hockey because it doesn't paint a good enough picture.
I thought the individual goal song was kind of cool at first but I think I would just prefer one good song and develop a bit of history with it.
I will also add that the canucks last pick in the draft this year Brett McKenzie has 7 G and 5A in his first 8 games so far this season with North Bay.
He was a 2nd year eligible player but also had injury issues he bounced back from, hopefully he continues to do well and we should see him in Utica next year. - belcherbd
Agree about the goal song .
There were other Canuck prospects yesterday that scored like the Russian ? Pedan had a monster hit. Things are going well

His plus minus wasn't - 90...he was just on the ice for that many...it included SH GA, etc.
I'm not sure if it was you that I had this out with last year, but this is also entirely based on Corsi stats too. Bo was in the bottom of the league...wasn't totally his fault (he was a 20 YO playing 2nd line centre), but he got slaughtered.
Vrbata had actually pretty OK numbers last year in terms of Corsi...it wasn't Vrbata dragging down Bo, but the other way around (didn't help that Vrbata was shooting at around 4% though).
