I love Varly and Lord knows, he has saved our bacon more times than I can count through a really bad defensive stretch of hockey the last few years.
But there is just something about Picks. Does anybody else feel like he just "fits in" with this group of guys perfectly?
And that is one thing I like about Bednar compared to Roy. I think Bednar sees that possibility of a killer combo between Varly and Picks.
With the compressed schedule this year, teams are going to be relying more on their backups to take up the slack so they don't work the starters to death.
I'd love to see one of those perfect "1A/1B" this year between Varly and Picks where Bednar can depend on both equally. That will end up being a huge advantage down the stretch.

Picks is good, but lets not over play him so he steals the net and makes a hard call in the expansion draft. But play him enough that he gives Varly a break and make sure he doesn't go down with his annual groin injury.
