Pulled from the Calgary writer's blog:

In particular Gulutzan should use last change to pick at the Ennis - Grant - Deslauriers unit. They've been sub 30% in possession and even worse in the scoring chance department. I don't think it'd take much to expose this line.

Deslauriers looked good to me in game 1, persistent hound on the puck, but can't say I noticed him much in game 2. I also think this line wasn't together in game 1, anyone else know for sure?

He's not wrong. Deslauriers gets a pass from everyone because he throws his weight around and always looks like hes trying real hard. Reality is he doesnt accomplish much at all. There were plenty of instances in the edmonton game where plays could have turned into chances but he simply didnt have the skill set to do so. The kind an above average 4th liner or rookie does.

This is very true. I like D-lo, but only if he is paid below $1m / year and plays 4th line role. Not good for much else. Even that is a little beyond him.

Saw that thread, also. Jeez I hope he's wrong.

Always liked DLo; hoping for redemption from Ennis; and rooting for a latebloomer like Grant. But they aren't the the League of Superhero's or anything.

Its bothersome because there were so many other options, better options out there in FA at a similar price.

Not disuputing anything, and definitely not trying to sound like I ever expect anything more out of Deslauriers other than 4th line grinding role, just thought bringing over that info was interesting.

Ennis is never going to get redemption if playing on a line with him, so that part needs to stop. X-Grant-Deslauriers will be a fine 4th line, just need someone responsible out there to fill that slot and just need them to hold the game when they're on the ice.

Ennis could still be working on getting into game shape. Maybe that's the reason for that lack of ice time.

He should, but I doubt he'll ever get that chance. Again I know its only 2 games but it really looks to me like the coach isnt a fan of 63 or 28. I suspect both will be gone over the next calendar year.

Erik Condra sure would look better on that 4th line than Deslauriers. Should have claimed him off waivers

Our roster looked a whole lot better with Jack and Kane in it.

Funny you say that, it was my thought as I was wrapping up that post actually, considering maybe he's just trying to get him some limited ice time where he's not expecting anything. Frustrating watching him though.

I dont think hes suddenly not good, some players just dont fit into certain teams. The type of team Ennis came up with suited his style. It's the complete opposite now. He needs a fresh start

He is the type of player that would have been good in the late 80's, before the emphasis really was on the system and more on the creativity of the players.

He isn't a systematic player, but every team not coached by Ted Nolan has a system.

I find its pretty funny that besides under Nolan his best hockey was with a coach that everyone complained about was too defensive minded and that was Ruff.

Its 2 games and he spent his time with Delorian and Grant.....give it time...I think once Jack is back we see the lines shift back to:

Kane/Ennis - ROR - Okposo/Reinhart
Kane/Ennis - Eichel - Reinhart/Okposo

You can work out all you want, but it's a whole different ballgame when you're actually playing the game. I don't think it's any coincidence that the Bills didn't play their starters at all in the preseaon and came out and laid eggs in the first 2 weeks. You hear athletes say it all the time that they need to remember what it feels like to get hit.
