Their window seems to be closing rather quickly.

I don't believe so. Doughty and Kopitar are in their primes. Quick is terrific. I still think they are upper echelon in the west. I can't see Lombardi riding zatkoff until quick is healthy. Kings won their first cup as an 8 seed, I think Lombardi makes a move.

I'm not taking it seriously. I'm talking about the rapidity at which noise flows.

I'd love to keep them both beyond this season but that's highly unlikely to happen.

Quick is overrated. When he's on his game, he's a top-5 goalie. But he is maddeningly inconsistent. He's a goalie that can either win or lose you a best-of-7 series by himself.

Also, they're going to have to find a way to renew both Pearson and Toffoli, and I don't know how they'll do it. That Dustin Brown extension is hurting them big time.

I still think they're a good team with good players, but I wouldn't call them a top-5 Cup favorite right now.

he is extremely athletic which allows him to make incredible saves, but it is as if he puts himself in position to have to make an incredible save

I'm going to have to disagree on Quick. The Browns contract is a problem. I can certainly see Lombardi working out a deal with Vegas to encourage them further to take brown in the expansion draft. Greene s buyout after this season gets more palatable

No, Mason is a goalie who relies on his positioning. Quick relies on his athleticism. Mason is much more consistent than Quick 5v5, but struggles on the PK, generally speaking.

Quick was incredible in 11/12. However, his numbers since then are good, not great. In fact, in 13/14, his Save % was pretty poor. Then won that series more despite him than because of him.

I am not disagreeing. Star players can and will attract people to games. I am just simply saying that the ace/baseball comparison is not the same thing.

I didn't realize I fell so far behind at lunch though so I wasnt trying to stir the pot agian

Quick is good enough with the core that is signed to win another cup, IMO. Since quick isn't healthy, I feel Lombardi is going to do something. I can't see any GM with that core relying on a career back up to keep them in playoff contention.

Flyers name Neuvirth starter for Friday's game, Panaccio says Mason "tight-lipped" that afternoon.

1. you made (or someone else did I dont remember) the connection to a starting pitcher and baseball. That is because you get to watch one guy. It is the individual aspect of baseball that causes that. If teams used all 5 starters in a rotation in the same game, that wouldn't happen. There is an expectation that when an opposing ace comes to play (and usually matched up against your team's ace) that you will see a better game

A low scoring one at that, which is interesting in itself

Neuvirth has a rap for getting injured when playing too much no?
- flyer_nutter

Nobody knows. He's never played more than like a dozen games in a season, or so I've heard.

And not being consistent. If we decide to go with him we are going to have to put up with valleys as deep as his peaks are high.

I would rather have Mason any day.
