I guess it depends what high hopes mean. Never saw him as a blue chip tender that would dominate and put in 60-70 games, but hoped he could be more of a 1b, or a really good backup.

I thought he would have an NHL career of some sort.

Yeah that is probably more reasonable expectation than I had

I thought everything was crap except Backlund, Frolik, Bennett, and Brodie.

Can't believe people are already crying for GG to be fired and Elliott being worse than Hiller on the FB page.

On the plus side, I think Versteeg could have great potential alongside JG and Moni.
On the downside, Tkachuk looked very slow. I was surprised about how slow he was accelerating through the neutral zone.

Might want to switch up Brouwer and Versteeg so we can get more speed on the 2nd line and "grit" on the 1st.

Swap Grossmann and Engelland for Jokipakka and Kulak. Even if they aren't better defensively right now, at least they'll be improving their game after learning from mistakes.

- BobHartley

What was wrong with Engelland? I thought he a Brodie played well together.

I also think the Flames need to stick up for JG more. He get's his ass handed to him 5 times a game. Someone has to start slashing people.

Ferkland???

I think Ferland needs to simplify his game. He is trying to do too much out there. Just drive the net create chaos and hit people. He was trying to dangle through the Oil D last night with no success.

To my way of thinking, with the standard line combos, only Gio is really equipped to protect JG. Monahan is not overly physical and wouldn't drop the gloves to save his life. Versteeg nope. TJ will get in scrums and stick up for players but also doesn't fight. If we move Brouwer up a line THEN Johnny would have the protection he needs. Personally that was my hope from the time we signed Brouwer..

Anyone haha. I think Brouwer on the first line should happen. Put Versteeg with Bennett and Tkachuk.

Someone on here said Tkachuk looked slow. I thought quite the opposite. I expected his skating to be much worse.

THe amount of times they were hooking, grabbing or slashing at Johnny's wrists as he was entering the offensive zone was appalling
Same thing with Bennett....no calls on any of those....McDavid gets a light tug after he gets a shot off on the breakaway and he gets a penalty shot...

or that play where Bennett gets cross checked and as he's falling an Oiler trips over his falling stick and Bennett is off for tripping LAWLZ
It was a farce!!!

The worst one was that interfence call on Wideman to start the 3rd. Both players weren't paying attention and somehow Wideman ends up in the box. Horse Sheit

That nasty shove by Dougie was something. Tkachuk with the dirty elbow on Larsson at the end.

Positives.

Here's hoping for a bloodbath tomorrow!

Exactly... the officiating was questionable but far from a "farce" as some would lead you to believe.

Coming out is never easy. Not everyone can admit to being a Beiber fan. Never talk to me again.

Didn't you guys have high hopes for a kid named irving a few years back?
- SRam19

You are right we did.

I always find with goaltenders that they have to play their way into that starting role. Gillies might do that, perhaps even this year, perhaps never.

Even Price had plenty of detractors in Montreal early on. He kind of went in backwards to my take. He was never so poor that he ended up in Switzerland, but he wasn't always a Hart trophy winner either.

I like that we have thrown a few darts on the board at the same time. One of them is bound to stick.

No need to be sour on him. He didn't sign Grossman.
