Who cares about winning or losing...I'm hoping their not so "unlucky" - Garnie
I don't care that the leafs lost that faceoff in OT.
It didn't matter because the goal was scored more than 10 seconds after the faceoff. |

Man this blog was terrible. Comparing a kid to Mario Lemieux, please. There was a lot to like obviously for the Leafs. But to call this team a playoff team is really Homerish. We all know rookies come out on fire in the first say 5-6 games of the season and then they begin to disappear. It always happens, now Austin is good and he should be able to keep a good pace, but this team has waaay too many rookies to see them getting even a sniff of the playoffs... Not saying this to diss the Leafs because i like where they are headed and all thier fans should too but lets temper expectations here... |

Too many rookies? Listen, experience doesnt show up on stats, therefore it is meaningless and way over rated. |

Rookies come out firing? Huh? usually quite the opposite and look no further than Connor Mcdavid last year. |

The leafs are a lock for the playoffs! I agree great win last night. |

It's not necessarily the experience thing. It's rookies have never played 82 NHL games in a season. Young rookies can't take the pounding the nhl players deliver game in and game out because thier bodies haven't matured. They haven't learned what it takes to give 100% game in and game out. Im not saying this cause im not a leafs fan, and i think Austin will be the exception, it's the rest of the rookies on the team that won't be consistent enough during the year for this team to make the playoffs. It seems to me that if you just shut down Austin, no one else is going to be able to score enough goals for this team. |

It's really surreal to see really good things happening for the Leafs and other Toronto sports teams. The Leafs are usually the team that the other team's star has a career night against.
That was amazing to witness. That second goal is probably top ten for the year already. Beautiful to see. And that's not counting Marner and Nylander. Uncharted waters for Leaf fans. That debut was a very cool bit of history for Matthews and the Leafs. Keep 'em coming boys. |

Whoever, and I'm suspecting it was Lou's doing, thought Anderson has the ability to be a #1 goalie should be marched out of Toronto. When I see a goalie drop to his knees everytime the puck enters the zone or one who's constantly swimming in his crease I know he will be eaten alive. This guy desrves full credit for the loss. One of many to come. |

If you actuallly watched the game you would know that Toronto's defensive zone coverage was horrible. If you just looked at stats you would think they played well. It's going to be a long season in Toronto. - Newgod77
It's going to be an exciting season in Toronto with all the kids and all the skill.
I too thought that the D was not great. Andersen's terrible goaltending in the 1st and 2nd didn't help either.
I've been a Leafs fan for a long time and watched a lot of games. I can honestly say I have never felt this way about the team. I know they aren't going to be great but I'm okay with it, I have never seen them build a team like they are right now. |

I blame the media for my hate of the leafs. If Toronto wasn't hailed as the team that represents all of Canada i would like them.
Canadian sports media is so poop in that aspect. - SRam19
I agree with you, but most of canadian hockey fans cheer for canadian teams when their own teams aren't playing, they were to fans cheering for van in 2011 |

I agree that it was an immensely entertaining game, but the best sporting event ever? Be honest, other than hockey, and baseball what other sports do you watch? And how much do you watch?
And as good as Matthews was, and he was spectacular, the Sens were equally as bad. On his 2nd goal, if any of the Sens actually did something other than wave their stick vaguely in Matthews general direction, that goal doesn't happen. 4 guys had a chance and they all blew it. But once he picked Karlsson's pocket Anderson had almost no chance to make that save from that angle. Karlsson had an uncharacteristically bad game, he was very lazy with the puck and it cost him dearly, but somehow, probably because Andersen had an atrocious game, they won. |

Andersen is a better goalie than he showed last night, but his numbers are indicative of the system he played in Anaheim on an über talented defensive Ducks team they won the Jennings last year for a reason. Take him out of that and his numbers will inflate a bit, but he's still a good goalie. |

Is your name a tribute to the Album by Jesus and Mary Chain? - James_Tanner
There's not much I could say that hasn't been written about that album; groundbreaking, breathtaking, mind numbing, masterpiece. It's one of those records that is greater than the sum of its parts. But hey, if one person moves a little further away from melodic mediocrity from deciding to look it up and give it a whirl... ya, it's a tribute for sure. |
