Bonino, Dumo, Murray, and MAYBE Daley are the only guys that really NEED to be resigned. All the other guys, Rust, Sheary, Kuhn, Wilson, Schultz, etc.. they are all a dime a dozen when you are looking for the right players. Yes, they played significant roles in the Playoffs, as most players do, but the problem Shero's regime (frank)ed up on was giving 3rd and 4th line players term and money, when those guys are easily replaceable on the cheap. Don't miss out on top end players because you want to give the WBS kids money and term. Granted this deal would never happen, but they'd be dumb not to make it work.

https://www.capfriendly.c...m/armchair-gm/team/204754

It's possible to make it work, if the chips fall the right way, IF that trade was ever even a possibility.

Dude your making up salaries. Bonino is getting a lot more money. Murray you are pricing at vasilevski level. He will get 1-3 million more. You can make cap work by making up salaries players are never going to accept.

Opening bid on Bonino is 5 years 20 million. He most likely will have UFA offers in the 6 years 27-30 area if he has a good season.

I'm not even counting on pricing for spare part players who shouldn't be terrible high to sign 3rd/4th line guys on rfa deals. Daley at 2.5 would be a gift. I already posed 2 years 7 and others told me he's going to have offers for more term. You are paying Tatar by assuming 3-4 guys will accept 1-2 million each below market value. Go to the hawks board and see how many guys took discounts to play for contender.

I could care less if Nutting was the owner of the Penguins, it's a salary Cap sport. His own financial situation has nothing to do with getting players on the team. Where in baseball, he can literally spend as much or little as he pleases, to field any team he pleases. In Nuttings case, little. Still wouldn't effect Penguins very much.

Not all teams spend to the cap. Nutting as a Penguins owner most certainly wouldn't. So yes, it likely would be detrimental to the on-ice product.

Yes, I'm making up salaries, but so are you. No one knows what "market value" is going to be. That's the whole point of being an armchair GM, making up what you think would work. How do YOU know what they're gonna get? You don't, so why make up a salary?

4 million per season, ok 500k more than I had him down for, if he wants more than that, you let him walk. Murray is an RFA, and will likely get a bridge deal, highly doubt he gets anywhere near 6 million. Daley at 33 shouldn't be getting more than 2.5 a year, if he wants more, he walks too.

You point to the Hawks, but I can point to the Lightning where Stamkos, Hedman, & Kucherov all took below market value to play for the Lightning. You want to pay the guys you mentioned the amounts you mentioned, you would get the Pens in the same trouble as Shero's management did.

The Hawks have 3 cups in how long... why? Because they let players walk when they had to. It's how it works.

Absolutely it would suck. Nutting is not "break even" kind of guy. He demands profit. He's the worst kind of owner.....profit before winning. Most owners use their teams as a toy. Nutting uses the Pirates as a profit center.

Anybody that saw those late season moves from the Pirates surely understands that guy could give a sh*t about the on-field product.

Uhhh.. there are absolutely budget teams in the NHL and if Nutting didn't want to spend to the cap for the Pens, he wouldn't.

I think Bonino prices himself out of here. Lets see how his regular season goes. Last year it left a lot to be desired until changes were made. Bonino will be signing his last NHL contract, he will want to make it big.

Shultz might be able to replace Daley. Either way Daley, Kunitz will be gone. The wild card will be what they do with MAF or Murray.

How is the Kessel trade looking Kapenen was not even on the list of the last 29 players in camp. I guess he might not be all that was thought of him. Harrington is already gone. And Kessel is a Stanley Cup Champion

It's really good news. You never know what kind of owner you're going to get. We could have ended up with another Bob Nutting....gag, vomit.

Sometimes people put assets up for sale at a high price to see if someone wants to overpay. If I had to guess, I think that's what they were doing.

- madmike71

Bob Nutting is absolutely worthless. He didn't take advantage of momentum to help the roster in order to take the next step. Instead, reclamation projects litter the roster and this is why we had the year we had.

Someone brought it up. Other people decided to chime in. The banner is still going to go up. I'm going to be there. All of these things are not mutually exclusive.

Just for fun....Vegas Gold wasn't bad back when they used the shiny fabric with it on the jerseys.

Mackey's reporting the Caps are game planning against us playing 11F/7D, meaning DP in and Sestito out. Not confirmed yet, but if the Caps are expecting it there might be fire to go along with the smoke.

Don't know why we wouldn't just carry someone actually useful instead of Sestito.

Silliness? Up until this morning apparently, there was a possibility of a sale to ownership who had just as much a likelihood of running the team into the ground as not. Generally, when a team achieves a degree of success, such as winning the Stanley Cup which allows a ceremony like the banner-raising tonight, fans of said team have a strong interest in seeing such success continue. Owners who aren't 'all-in' as Burkle and Mario have been lead to less chance of such success happening.

So I wouldn't say it is silly to discuss such things.

You'd have to drop Smith for a minimum salary defenseman and probably at least one other salary to make it work. Or if Guentzel continues to look strong you could just put him in Tatar's spot and use the 4M extra elsewhere.

But it's no longer possible. So it'd be just as relevant to talk about a toe growing from my forehead. It could happen but everything is telling you it wont so no need to discuss right now. Wait till you're exposed to gene mutating radiation or the team is actually for sale before worrying about the outcome of those events.

Like I said people can talk about whatever they want. I'm just pointing out the silly conversations that happen on this site a lot.

lol no. Guentzel is in no way shape or form anywhere near Tatar's skill level. Tatar is an elite forward. You don't pass up elite forwards. If you have a chance to get an elite forward at 4-5 million a year, you do it. Simple as that. Figure the rest out later.

Elite? He's a good top 6 guy, but elite's a stretch. We already have a lot of top end skill up and down the lineup. We can't keep adding high price tag guys. We need to fill out the holes with cheap contracts.

We have enough useful guys. Lets add a little color to this painting for just a little while. I'd say it has to do with his 2 way contract though.

When money comes off the books from high price tag players (Kunitz, Hags/Horny (expansion), Daley, Fleury, Dupuis, Scuderi retention, Fehr, Bonino... you replace them.. with more high price tag players. You don't pay role players. That's the exact hole Shero dug himself into.

http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...left-wingers-nhl-numbers/

He doesn’t get the credit, but Tomas Tatar is the best player on the Detroit Red Wings these days and the best transition winger in the NHL, to boot. Tatar’s silky smooth hands and skating ability allow him to weave his way through the ice with ease, and if he can’t find open ice, he’s also one of the most adept passers in the NHL. Adding to his strong transition play, Tatar is an above average first line defensive player, and strong scorer.

There's a reason he's on Sportsnet's top 4 LW in hockey. Above the likes of Marchand, Gaudreau, Hall, even Ovi in certain categories. He is also THE best transition winger in the NHL, put him in an offense that is BUILT on transition games.. and it's an absolute no brainer.

Not sure who I'd rather have to be honest. Sestito or DP? Have zero faith in either.
