oh that is rich

Crosby gets the poop kicked out of him, but it wasnt always that way

- YuenglingJagr

crosby never got anything like that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LZoizmNrS8 that was gonna be a normal 2min penalty and not a penalty shot according to the ref that judged the game if sid hadn't scored.

If Hedmans considered world class Kirs Letang Brent Burns and Drew Doughty might as well have super powers.

They're all world class too.

Weak penalty shot call. Marner was hooked on a breakaway and they didn't even call a penalty.

well I mean when you are the nhls new little boy and the great ones little boy you will ofc have refs that will call every single thing that happens to mcdavid. I am amazed the guy that hit mcdavid last year didn't get life time ban from nhl

I'm not sure how a D can look so good on paper and fail so hard. Elliot looked pretty shaky too.

Question for all of you who want the NHL to call penalties "by the book."

On the second Matthews goal last night, Karlsson has the puck on his stick in the defensive zone. Matthews steals puck, sells the pass, the shoots and scores.

However, prior to stealing the puck, Matthews uses his stick to lightly tap EK on the back leg to let him think he's going a different direction. Technically, this qualifies as "slashing." So, should Matthews have been given a 2-minute penalty on the play in this utopian world?

Exactly.. take Kunitz's money and Scuderi's money and give it to Tatar. I'm going to go with a proven stud NHL player over a crapshoot late first round pick 10 times out of 10 if that deal is on the table. You do not pass up on a deal like that, ever. You make the money work, because thats how good he is. I'm not for the sake of keeping a 1st round pick just to have it, not if you have a sure fire, bonafide top line NHL player. That's just nonsense.

We will struggle to have the cap space to sign our own guys after this year. Taking on more salary won't be possible.

I agree with you. A Daley extension has bad ending written all over it, but that's a spot that needs filled and right side defensemen are always in demand. Unless Schultz or Pouliot makes a big jump, it's pay Daley or gamble in free agency and I don't really like either option. Guess I'd pay Daley because the Crosby, Malkin, Kessel, Letang window has an expiration date. But we'll see what happens.

Depends what kind of term and salary he will look for. 2 years for $7 million would be safe enough.

It can be done. Replace bonino with guentzel if he lives up to expectations. Cullen will probably be gone. Dupuis money comes off the books, trade fleury, recycle the 3rd/4th line with more ahl players so they don't have to pay guys like Kuhnhackl, rust, etc. With new ahl guys. If that deal was every on the table... you take it and work around it. Granted it will never be on the table... but if it was, you make it work. He's that good.
- j.boyd919

Bonino is an elite 3C and the 3C model works. No guarantee Guentzel can even be an average 3c let alone a difference maker. Way easy to find fill-in wingers than it is to find elite 3c.

that was an extremly light tap dude... what we are talking about is a hook that was about as light as that tap but resulted in a penalty shot. that tap should in no way be called since it was not bad enough to be called. neither was the hook (a 2 min penalty is enough). That penalty shot MIGHT have changed the game. that slash earlier in the Matthews sequence by hoffman or stone we can talk about though. what we are talking about is not calling by the book but calling everyone equally.

Sure, I'd take that deal in a heartbeat. He'll get more term on the open market though.

Bonino, Dumo, Murray, and MAYBE Daley are the only guys that really NEED to be resigned. All the other guys, Rust, Sheary, Kuhn, Wilson, Schultz, etc.. they are all a dime a dozen when you are looking for the right players. Yes, they played significant roles in the Playoffs, as most players do, but the problem Shero's regime (frank)ed up on was giving 3rd and 4th line players term and money, when those guys are easily replaceable on the cheap. Don't miss out on top end players because you want to give the WBS kids money and term. Granted this deal would never happen, but they'd be dumb not to make it work.

It's possible to make it work, if the chips fall the right way, IF that trade was ever even a possibility.

Technically, its a slash if you really want to go that far. However, it once again verified to me that Karlsson isn't that good defensively.

It's really good news. You never know what kind of owner you're going to get. We could have ended up with another Bob Nutting....gag, vomit.

Sometimes people put assets up for sale at a high price to see if someone wants to overpay. If I had to guess, I think that's what they were doing.

I could care less if Nutting was the owner of the Penguins, it's a salary Cap sport. His own financial situation has nothing to do with getting players on the team. Where in baseball, he can literally spend as much or little as he pleases, to field any team he pleases. In Nuttings case, little. Still wouldn't effect Penguins very much.
