Observations I've made in the games I've watched

Elder looks like the Elder of 4 yrs ago.
-Baer still looks weak on the puck
-Hutton is gonna be a a great player. Unbelievable how this guy keep getting better.
-Sutter looks good

- Bieksa#3

Don't know how you can say that, he has improved his board play alot from last year.

There will be no western Canadian playoff teams.

I can see Calgary being a wildcard. Wpg would be tough but I could also see them squeaking in.

Calgary has a shot. Goaltending is much better, Bennett may be the secondary scoring they need.

Fair enough, won't be cheering for them but I like most of their moves they have made the past couple of seasons.

Adding Brouwer, Elliott, Johnson, Versteeg this year and Frolic,Hamilton last year has really improved that team IMO.

Players need value in order to trade them. Etem is already cut loose, waivers is the goodbye. I think AHL may help him adjust his game.
- neem55

I think this trip to the AHL might do him some good. Green has done well turning Gaunce into an NHL player, likewise he did some good for Sven during his tenure down there. It might be too late to get much from Etem, but if he can be a solid bottom 6 with speed, then role filled

I agree with Calgary. I think they will take the next step this year, reminds me of Dallas a few years ago. Winnipeg I think is in too tough of a division, plus I think I saw that their wingers down the right side are sophmore Ehlers, then rookies Connor, Laine and Tanev. That much inexperience I think will be in tough against the likes of Dallas, Nash, Chi, St.L

If he makes it to Utica, It will certainly complicate their foward ranks a bit.

On that note.

D'oust was cut from his PTO and Stewart has been sent to Alaska.

Did anyone call the Leafs to let them know the Canucks have left some unwanted household items at the curb for pickup?

I'm probably alone in this, but I think this team makes the playoffs - but just barely.

Team was a lot closer last year than most people remember. They were in the hunt until the TDL, then fell off a cliff.

Trouble spots in terms of the numbers - Bartowski and Weber, Centre and defensive depth, Vrbata having an off year...are all gone.

I think the team will be better than last year - Rodin, Eriksson, Sutter are all significant upgrades for scoring, there's more defensive depth (though no real stud) and I think importantly they've got a lot of options if people go down.

- Ronning4ever

You can't believe the garbage that is out there. Assuming healthy (and that is the same for all teams) - the Canucks will likely land somewhere in between the 2014 (9th place, I believe) and the 2015 Canucks. Will that make them a playoff team? Hard to tell. If Crosby is gone, Malkin is gone, and Letang- the Pens will be closer to the 2015 Nucks team. That's hockey.

Maybe In a year or two. Jury is out on Elliott as a starter and Gio hasn't been the same since the injury. Top 6 forwards are looking good there and top 3 D but after that it's a large craps shoot. Calgary needs a few shrewd moves to get some 3-4 line scoring back and badly. I have Calgary finishing 16-24 in the standings right around there right in line with Vancouver.

But if Calgary can some how acquire some bottom 6 scoring look out...they could be a factor.

Of course, if he does well, he'll have to clear waivers again. so he's probably gone either way

Thats why I think they remind me of Dallas before they really became contenders. They had questionable goaltending, Benn-Seguin were an excellent duo like Monahan-Johnny are, plus some young offensive defenseman. They need to shore up their depth as you say, but I think they make the playoffs this year. I dont trust Elliot being a fulltime #1, but they brought in a solid backup capable of 20 games

To be honest, I think Montreal if healthy is a lock for the playoffs. The only other Canadian team I see with a shot is Ottawa

Backlund is one of the best 3rd line centers in the league. I don't want calgary to be good, the fact is Gaureau is a elite top-10 star and Elliott is a huge upgrade in net... luckily he fizzles in the playoffs, so they wont go far.

Other than the brief attempt by some Flames fans to set up a tent city, it's been pretty dull in here recently. And nothing of consequence will happen for several days.

Etem seems indifferent to whether he plays or not. Not that I know lots about Skille, but good for him that he beat the odds. Just need to get Kane now and we are good.

with calgary, edmonton, vancouver and arizona all looking better on paper and the central being totally stacked I could easily ducks and kings both missing this year. I think they are the only 2 teams who didnt improve during the off season
