This can't be what their going into the season with. They need at least 7 defensemen. Pulock will be up in short order. The question is which forward will be going down (unless the Halak injury is long-term)? - Jethro09
They play the first couple of games close to home so they'll call up somebody if one of the 6 goes down. Halak is sick not hurt according to staple, but either way they are keeping 3 goalies again |

Agreed. It doesn't make sense. I also thought it was a golden opportunity to shed Kulemin's contract at $4M per instead of a productive Parenteau, but I guess not. - Jethro09
But we wouldn't have shed Kulemin's contract, that's the problem. Not a single team would have even entertained the idea of picking him up off the waiver wire and then we would have just had an AHL player that counted for $4M against our cap. |

Nobody was taking Kulimen on waivers and his cap would have still counted if cleared against so that was really never an option |

This would be correct, but I don't think you understand how waivers work. |

Typical Islanders but I am sure there is good reason for all these stupid moves. Barzal should be playing hands down if they have him up here.
The three goalie thing is just ridiculous and sending Pulock down is also very dumb. But I forgot this is GArth Snow - kasperrko
I don't know why everyone is completely offended by the 3 goalie thing. I can't believe I am actually defending Snow here, but just because other teams don't typically do it, doesn't mean its a bad idea. Halak has an injury history. He's been banged up a lot in recent years. Greiss seems capable of being a #1, but lets see him do it for more than a half season before we say that.
If Berube is legit and can be a goalie of the future here, why put him on waivers? You know a team will snatch him up. I'd rather carry 3 then lose a good goaltender for nothing, especially when Greiss is a UFA next summer and Halak only has 1 yr left on his deal.
Besides, having three goaltenders does not preclude the team from moving one for an asset during the season instead of losing Berube for nothing on waivers. |

It's not the worst idea because of Halak and his injury history |

I'd rather not have 3 goalies normally, but with Halak I can understand it. It's really tough on Berube though never getting to play. 3 goalies is the least of the issues. |

Besides, who's roster spot is Berube taking up? If they had that extra spot, who would it go to? To keep Pelech up to sit in the press box behind the other seven guys? To keep Barzal or Beauvillier on the team? if they're keeping Beauvillier or Barzal for the season, they will be playing, not sitting in the press box. So essentially, Berube is taking the spot of the 14th forward, a Quine or Prince, not one of those kids. Is it really that big of a deal that we have a third goaltender taking roster spot #23 as opposed to a 14th forward? |

I was just like to know what other NHL team has the three goalie monster. I would like to know why other teams would not even think about it?
Sorry it is not good for any of the goalies at all. Berube will never be able to develop just sitting there. That is the biggest issue with it |

It worked out for Greiss and Berube just fine last year. They were both real good when called on. Halak complained about it. The other two didn't. Sure, goaltenders don't want to share a net in practice and I get Halak's frustration. But if the choice is to lose Berube for nothing on waivers or to have him share a net with Greiss/Halak in practice, then from an asset management standpoint, I'm keeping 3 goaltenders. Again, they can move one of the goaltenders in-season for an asset if it becomes problematic rather than lose Berube to waivers for nothing. |

While it may be rare to do such, you can't argue the fact that it worked out well for the team keeping all 3 last year. |

I understand that, but all I care about is if it helps the team and not really worried about their feelings. Halak is just too injury prone to leave nobody behind Griess. If they had a stud down in BP that would be another thing. Gibson and their other goalies are a huge downgrade from Berube |

Hope he can jump right in because he's in the KHL for two more years and that's how much time Halak has left on his contract. |

I just hope what he is doing there translates to here in America. That sometimes is
difficult for those players |

So compared to last year the ORGANIZATION starts the year with four rookie forwards (counting JHS and MDC who starts slow) plus Prince and Quine and on D Pulock and Pelech or a total of 8 new young players.
So whatever happened to Kirill Petrov and Sebastian Collberg?..the buzz of last training camp's blog? |
