Or maybe its a playoff type game against a division rival and they dont wanna throw him into the fire right away. Who knows.
- kindlyrick

First game of the yeat is not playoff type game to me and plus you would want guys like that in there to see what they can do. IF he is good enough for the NHL then he is good enough to play any game

I will not get into that argument right now as those guys literally fell in his lap

I mean, Barzal (and Beauvillier) is (are) the youngest player(s) to make the team since Tavares (I think). So they're already stepping outside of their customary roster moves at the beginning of the year. I don't think it's out of the question to see them insert him into the lineup at some point and for him to run with it and not give them a choice.

What age was Nino, Strome?

Your right, the point definitely isn't about Barzal. Going back to the origin of all this, my point is that too many of the kids outplayed PAP and he got cut because of it. That's not to say he was cut for any one of Barzal/Beauvillier/Quine/Prince/etc..., but enough guys showed that they could hang at this level to justify getting rid of PAP.

I firmly believe the reason they cut PAP was because they knew he wouldn't clear waivers. Had they waived Kulemin, Bailey, etc... not a team in the world would have touched them with those cap hits and contract term. It gave them a little bit of extra cap space and got rid of a contract. Two birds, one stone.

I hope the kids kill it I really do. If they don't I just don't know who is going to score

So when he does something good, it was the result of something else.

But when he does something bad, it's his fault and his fault alone.

Well, the opening night roster rarely resembles the team they have for a possible playoff run so even Pulock and Pelech are not bothered with going to BRI.

Yes we had a good idea about PAP's ability but Quine is ready for an NHL season and no way they waive Prince because of his age and invested draft pick.

Absolute nonsense to think about trading prospects who have never seen regular season ice.

Yzerman has made some bold moves of late but he stood pat for years allowing Stamkos, Hedman and other picks to develop. Drouin and Kucherov are great picks but he would have made a major mistake dealing them as "prospects".

Doesn't matter. They weren't the only team with cap space to take on those players. Kill Snow when he deserves it and give him credit when he deserves it. Otherwise its tough to take anything said seriously, IMO

Strome went back and played two more junior seasons after his draft year.

I was wrong, forgot about Nino. He played 9 games the year he was drafted. (This is why I always like to get my facts in order before I say something )

Although, in my defense...this team was hot garbage when Nino was given his chance, so I'd still argue that Barzal making the team at this age is more impressive.

The problem isnt going to be Barzal and Beau to me. Its going to be the Bailey, Strome, Lee, and Nelsons. If those guys dont put up numbers this team is screwed.

Yeah, I mean there's undoubtedly pitfalls with having an inexperienced roster. I just think that if you stick anyone with Tavares, they'll produce similarly to what PAP would have done.

Gotta believe if the islanders are not firing on all cylinders at the 20 game mark, the new ownership makes changes Cpt. there are 500 Million reasons to believe this however this is the Islanders we are talking about.....

And the team would have been screwed if most, if not all, of those guys didn't get their act together even with PAP...so this is a good point.

I am trying to think if there was one winger that Tavares had that actually did not have a career year

Great then play them and not put Barzal in the press box in the first game to prove himself
