It was the five years that Holmgren took to try to push his rebuild into the finals. They cast away far too many picks and desperately signed free agents to fill the prospect pool which was hit or miss to say the least.

Prior to that the Flyers always had a decent pipe line to the NHL. They're inability to select a decent D prospect for 20 years is mind numbing when you look at where they selected them.

Define "decent" pipeline.

I think the fact that they've hit on some 1st round picks clouds people's judgement with respect to the Flyers' ability to fill spots at the NHL level from within.

The ability to do this is even more important now, with salary cap restraints. It's not a luxury anymore to have such a system in today's NHL. It's a necessity.

2000-2010 were atrocious drafting years after the first round. I'm going back further than that which is a long time for some but not for some others.

Depending on your perspective I could readily agree with you.

You didn't think Ghost was ready last year because that was who I was talking about.
- mayorofangrytown

Honestly, it was obvious Ghost had the skill, but he did not have a great camp.

I do think that the timing of Ghost's callup had a lot to do with his success though. I would for a second act like Hextall planned it that way, but Ghost got an opportunity and made the most of it

Did I want him on the team over Manning/MacDonald/Schultz/Gudas...absolutely

Honestly, I believe Scott Laughton could do Sean Couturier's job.

I recall MJL and a few other regulars here telling me several times in the roughly last calendar year there's essentially no way Konecny and Provorov would both make the team this year (which I stated adamantly on numerous occasions). Most knew Provorov had a good shot, but I was also consistently told that Konecny in particular would likely not even be ready for a top-9 role, let alone a top 6 role where he's best suited.

Something about them being "too green" and "inexperienced" in a league where most 30 year old's can't even find work.

Not usually an "I told you so" kind of guy, but I (frank)ing told ya so.

Gudas' imminent suspension pisses me off because it is a pure reputation suspension. ANYONE ELSE who makes the same hit would not face supplementary discipline.
- flyerscup2011

I think this is called being a fan or a homer. Gudas' history aside, Saturday's hit Saturday was his second bad hit of the pre season alone. He dodged one bullet, he wasn't dodging a second.

Listen I'm not surprised he got suspended, but I am surprised he got suspended for half a month.

I got off light because it was obviously a joke, related to a post on (I think) the page before.
