Hexy is unwilling to lose scrubs like VDV or Manning through waivers, but over the last few seasons, Holland is just giving away true and cheap NHL depth talent. He agonized over an old bum like Chris Porter. Did you know Holland has lost through waivers Nestrasil on Carolina, Jarnkrok on Nashville, Janmark on Detroit? For nothing. Each of those are now true NHL talents capable of being traded for good value, if they even wanted to trade them but instead play them as valuable bottom 6 pieces. Now he's lost Frk, who people say had a great camp, to Carolina again. You know they're on top of their poop. He'll now lose Pulkkinen certainly. All to ice a 4th line of Drew Miller - Luke Glendening - Steve Ott.

The overcooking nonsense has nothing to do with the prospects. It has to do with an irrational love for old declining players and stupidity.

It's also dumb to keep these guys in the minors because you only have a certain amount of time before they reach ufa status. If you let a guy develop until he's 24, you'll only get 3 years of rfa value.

He wore 32 in juniors. Streit's days are numbered
- Mononoke

I thought he wore 17. Did he wear 17 with Ottawa and 32 with Sarnia?

I agree, the player was coming off a serious knee injury and missed a lot of hockey. Hextall made the right call, and in my opinion, handled it perfectly by sending him down to the AHL, to get some playing time in there, and get his game and timing back. To have thrown him right into the NHL at the beginning of the season, would've been a mistake, and unfair to Gostisbehere.
- MJL

I am not sure it would've been a mistake or unfair, I just think him getting to come in on the power play led to him hitting the ground running.

While true, I don't really agree with this. You can still sign a guy long term before he's a UFA.

Tatar: 32 points in 58 AHL games; 57 p in 70 ; 58 p in 76; 49 p in 61

Nyquist: 58 points in 56 AHL games; 60 p in 58; 21 p in 15

Both of those are legit top 9 players, maybe top 6, especially Tatar. Clearly they were ready but they just wasted prime and cheap years. No one can say that all of Nestrasil, Janmark, Jarnkrok would not be on the Wings NHL roster right now. Instead, they offer and have horrendous contracts to old players on precipitous declines or on the brink of them and have no understanding of asset management. Detroit and Holland today are not to be emulated and treated as some gold standard, especially for how they handle youth. Holland is one of the lesser GMs in the league.

Sanheim wore 32 in Calgary. Considering he won't be on the team until Streit leaves anyway, it'll be free

EDIT: my bad, I thought he was talking about Sanheim for some reason...I guess b/c he wore #71 in previous camps. I didn't realize he was asking about Konecny's #

Konecny said he liked #80 from last camp. That's a pretty cool unique #. I actually really liked #63 on him, another unique one. #71 would be cool too. He needs to have a flashy, unique number. Get into the nosebleeds.

I don't think anyone can be 100% certain, so it's just an opinion. I think Hextall handled it correctly. I totally agree that being able to play on the top PP unit put him in the best position to succeed.
