Being real is understanding that Tallon was the GM, but Stan took over at the start of the season. Tallon laid the groundwork for that team (and the salary cap nightmare) while Stan steered the ship during the season.

We can't say Stan would have done it on his own if he had built the team or not. We also can't say that Tallon would have done things the same with the roster during that year and if the Hawks will would have still won.

What is so difficult about just giving credit to both guys? They both deserve credit for the Hawks getting there.

- breadbag

Both guys deserve credit but Stan had very little to do with that first Cup winner...as JJ mentions Tallon did a lot of wheeling and dealing and built another team in FLA. Bowman has his gig because McD has a man crush on Scotty.

And while I'm thrilled that Stan has been able to add around the periphery with some nice pieces - Oduya, Frolik, Vermette. At the same time Bowman has made some beauts as well - what was your favorite moment of the Marty Turco era? More recently several horrid moves the last couple of seasons have cost this team a chance or two at winning more than 3 cups.

While Bowman deserves praise he also deserves criticism big time.

Last summer alone he cost this team another real shot by not getting a #4 defenseman while getting Jim Nil's hot garbage back from Dallas for Sharp Oduya and Johns. Then at the TDL he gives up both Dano and Danault and still doesn't get a #4. Why trade for Ladd then? Bowman's first move last offseason was to resign Rundblad not to try to find a way to hang onto Oduya...how bout the summer before when he sat on Leddy all summer and then had to move him - ladies and gents Ville Pokka...

so while Stan deserves credit he's not infallible by any means.

We know this is the golden era of Blackhawks hockey. And the mantra is One Goal.
The point is how many chances to you get to win with this core. The clock is ticking.

Meantime Bowman continues to lock up an aging core with monster deals and no movement clauses. It should be interesting to see what happens with Panarin here...

let's hope 'the kids can play'...

Isn't up and down play what you'd expect from these guys getting their first taste of a real competition???
- akuroski

Sure. And I would rather see it in the preseason than the regular, and pretty sure Q feels the same.

Rosy is clearly done
Both rookies make the team and split time as number 6
TVR is number 4 or will play number 5 to support the rooks
TVR needs more love on this board since his game continues to improve and he seems to win most board battles

Til the REAL #4 is back in Game 2.

I doubt they waive Rozy, FWIW.

They can send him down, I guess. But he was signed as a player/coach/interpreter—and he does not serve that purpose anywhere but in Chicago. They didn't sign him to have him play in Rockford. I think if you look at it dispassionately, regardless of what some fans would like to see happen, there's no other rational explanation for it.

I assume you're projecting TVR as #4 for Wednesday night only?

I'm just saying I personally think Q probably was surprised by what they got out of that game because they were in St Louis held their own when I thought the best thing they could do was keep it a 2 goal game but realistically I thought it would be a 4-0 loss

The moment Crow took the net for good. Marty Turco on a one year deal for $1 point something mildo wasn't a big deal or that egregious.

I'm more P/O'd about the Marty Reasoner for Jeff Taffe trade.

The Core's been identified and they'll ride them til the end.

If TVR is getting top 4 minutes in Chicago by midseason, I would expect the Hawks to be sellers for the first time in several years at the deadline.

I think he will slot as number 5 but his skill level is at number 4. I really like the progression of his game. Would like to see him be more physical but this is the new NHL were puck possession is a bigger priority than finishing a check

Last night watching kreuger play was so enjoyable. He has an edge to his game that is very frustrating for the opponent. Krueger is the ultimate pest and I like his line with the addition of some speed on the wings since he will get the puck to his open wingers.

I'd guess it comes down to the salary cap. To begin the year, they'll have the space and can afford to keep him as a #7 or #8. Maybe as they are getting closer to making a deal they play him a few games to see if he has any gas left in the tank. Then they make their move and either move him to LTIR or waive him. It also depends on how the rookies do and if they are going to stay for the entire season or sent away for a while.

he will have to save trailer truck load of bacon for this team to be a top 8 team...

"Last night, in the Hawks' final preseason game of 2016, we saw the downside of preseason roster-making: a relative skeleton crew was pretty roundly outplayed in St. Louis by a more NHL-representative Blues team."

I don't know I thought they held their own. Pretty even game SOG's, hits, blocked shots, FO's 50-50.

I got the impression the Blues were mailing it in a bit. Trying to not get hurt and not putting in full effort.

Not on a team planning to go far in the playoffs. He was exposed by St. Louis last year. Q likes him because he thinks the game well, but his lack of mobility is a limiting factor.

The only additional question I have is, how much weight do you put into the rooks performance when playing with other rooks vs starters. We saw drastically different results against Det when we were playing more of our key guys. Obviously Det was not, but the overall game had a much more fluid feel to it.

I guess it goes back to your original reasoning for why Motte and Hartman appear to be the most likely to stick. They make plays that are more universal to regular season play...

There really might be some lightning in the bottle with that 3rd line. Keep them together for sure, build chemistry and create matchup problems for other teams. I Like that Motte and Hartman really elevated themselves.

Thanks. How's things with you?

How you feeling about your team? I always thought Backes was a bad leader and honestly felt the Blues would never win with him as Captain...so now that he's gone, I'm worried

Things are much better this summer. Thanks.

I'm not sold yet on a few fronts for the Blues. Of course, I'm from the show me state so maybe that leads to some of my skepticism, lol.

As to Backes, his effort was always there but not always in the most effective manner. He seemed to change last year. His play in the playoffs was a lot more effective, less chasing for a hit, etc. I wish we would have gotten similar play from him in the prior years.
