Better way of looking at it is they don't want to pay him more than dekeyser or Rielly
- Sabresfan-365

That's certainly fair. I just hope this gets resolved soon. I've maintained a 5.5-6 per is fair value for him on a long term contract. My worry is this drags into the first 10-15 games of the season.

I just hope this doesn't drag on too long. One would think with the start of the season next week they'll move this thing along to an agreement.

I don't mind it dragging out if it ends with risto caving. Bit of a long shot though.

Could be waiting for the others to sign as comparisons . Only reason I can think of for the delay.

Problem seems to be that they differ on comparisons. Risto thinks he belongs in the group with the other RFA d-men left and TM clearly doesn't.

They just need to find an equitable compromise.

Thing is im not convinced there is one. I think the arguments (at least the ones i think of) from both sides are fairly convincing, to the point where if i was on either side i wouldn't budge.

I have to say it's pretty surprising that there are what, 5 or 6 high end RFA's left to get signed. Which of these kids will blink first?

Lindholm: Anaheim is either being unreasonable or more likely need to free up a little salary to fit him in their internal budget

Kucherov: Lightning may want to move some cap out first but i suspect that will be the first to get done

Trouba: Asked for a trade

Gaudreau: Assuming they'd pay him the 8 mil he wants they would probably need to move some cap out as well

And our cap room is getting small too. Risto getting 7 would eat it up.

Could be the hold up. Who knows ? Made 925,000 last season , not worth in hell the increase he is looking for . Next year he is arb eligible . I say give him a 2 year 2.5-3.5 and go from there.
Show me or I show you the door.

I agree 100% although 2 year deal would mean his deal expires same time as eichel, reinhart and kane. That'd be some kind of off season for us

Yeah . Gonna be a tough time to be a Sabres GM that July.

Lehner is arb eligible next July too. what happens if we make the playoffs and he plays like a god .

This is a good post.

GMTM needs to get Risto signed...that, clearly is priority #1.
I see 4 at 5.65 each. ... Risto caves a bit on salary, Sabres cave on term.

So if Kane is on LW with Eichel and Reinhart .. Who fills the "#1" LW? ... Must be Ennis, but he didn't fare so well when that experiment was conducted last year.

- IonSabres

Ennis is much better on the left side than the right. He was on the right side last year.

The World Cup (frank)ed everything up. No one wanted to negotiate during it, and that set everyone back.

Agreed . Some put everything on the line to make their contract . Thing is can we expect that same attitude and effort after the contract ?

Speaking of which id love to see the final numbers on that event (tickets, tv etc). The only games i watched were 2 team north america games and 1 1/2 periods of the canada-usa game and I doubt im the only one who did that. All the buzz and hype the expected from this, especially holding it in toronto, was virtually non-existent.
