Just curious, what happens if they break a mirror? Does their bad luck extend or does it help them out? Will the Hawks not win another cup for like 45 years since Obama is leaving the White House? I would love to be enlightened so I know when to begin watching hockey again.

Caps D is fine, on paper. Niskanen, Carlson, Schmidt, Orlov...then Alzner and Orpik.

Carlson needs to step up big time, but the other 3 are just fine. Alzner and Orpik are what they are.

Before each round in the 2016 playoffs I successfully picked each winner in the Eastern Conference except in the Fla/NYI match up - I thought Florida would win and was a little (but not a lot) surprised that the Islanders won. They tailed off a bit at the end of the regular season but then had a good showing in the playoffs, losing to the only team that gave the Pens serious trouble (TB almost beat the Pens).

As for the Pens repeating, they will not be able to keep the pace they maintained at the end of the regular season and in the playoffs last season. For both of the recent Pens Cup wins they were on a torrid pace in March. It is impossible to make any kind of determination as to how they will play in March in October.

The only prediction I am willing to make now is that Columbus and Carolina will miss the playoffs again . I wouldn't let Tortarella coach my team if he paid me.

Canes will come in somewhere around 90 points (I'm guessing 92) but miss the playoffs.

Next off season they will address their goaltending and take a giant leap as they once again shed dead weight like Bickell and McClement for younger, faster players.
