Will they call up a D man now with both Manning and MDZ down? I would think Morin if so would be the call up?
- Buzzo

They have: Ghost, Provorov, Gudas, MacDonald, Streit, Schultz and Manning.

That's 7! 7 Defensemen!

Edit: DIdn't realize Manning was actually in jeopardy of missing time

Knee. Judging by the prognosis, probably a torn meniscus.

Or a sprained ligament.

One bit of optimism is that I think Hextall usually gives slightly exaggerated estimates so he doesn't have to deal with the beats asking him about "setbacks" if a 3 week injury turns into 4. For instance last year Couturier was meant to miss a month after a leg injury and missed less than three weeks. Gudas was supposed to be out for the whole preseason.

he is the opposite of homer in more ways than 1

If there is ONE silver lining, it would be that Manning heals up and can play most of his 14 games right off the bat.

Possible. A sprain is basically a small tear. Any way you slice it not good.

Are we just assuming SuspenSchenns (stole it cause I like it and want it to catch on) cap hit applies? I didnt think it did, but haven't seen evidence one way or the other

So, do we just LTIR MDZ and everything works out, cap-wise?

I saw Charchildi post that Del Zotto to LTIR which takes care of cap problem

Schenn stays on roster so cap hit should apply during suspension.

Maroon missed 18 days from that injury. Best case scenario is probably MDZ being back for the 11/2 game vs Detroit. That would be 27 days and 10 missed games.

Thought teams had to be cap compliant to open the season then place a player on LTIR.

It's not a sky is falling type deal, but it's frustrating to lose one of their better dmen before the season starts.

It's extra frustrating if you watch how it happened. Just a flukey, unstable skate landing on a whiffed shot block in the last five minutes of a preseason game that was already decided.

You don't have to be, there are two options.

But it easy for the Flyers to be cap compliant with Provorov and Konecny on the roster - they just have to demote Lyubimov and waive MacDonald. Then when MDZ goes on LTIR, they can recall MacDonald.

I'll have to look. I think you might be right though. Maybe they have to do some paper transaction in waiving someone and then bring them back once del zotto hits LTIR

They can put basically whoever they want to on waivers (probably Giroux and Voracek), stay as close to the cap ceiling as they can, put MDZ on LTIR, and then recall them if they want to.
