I was more talking about the daily effect on using LTIR versus cap space. So it was more of a how does it affect you having that $1M (or whatever the number is) in usable space.
In other words, every day that you are using LTIR, you are given zero cap space for that day. Every day that you are x dollars under the cap, you get (x/# of days in the season) cap space for that day. Every day, you add up all of those days, and that is the amount of cap space that you can use to add to your roster (including trading for pro-rated contracts like you mentioned). - jmatchett383
The effect is as i said previously. It is not bankable. If you have 10k of ltir daily cap space and dont use it, it is gone. If you have 600k of unused ltir cap space in october, with no other roster changes, you have 600k at the deadline, and can take on a player with a 600k full season cap hit. |

So........
Konecny and Provorov.
Have they done enough to earn a roster spot?
Who is being waived to create spots?
My guess. Yes they are in.
Waived: Read, Manning, Lyubinov
Eventually Lyubinov takes Vandeveldes spot in the season |

Just want to take a quick poll in here after reading another one of the writer's blogs:
If someone had an issue and came to "talk it out" with you, do you think throwing a puck at them is an appropriate response? - jmatchett383
Yes, they shouldn't have disagreed with me in the first place. |

My opinion, if Hakstol's one criticism on Konecny was that he needs to not do risky things he can get away with in juniors, it's time to move on from juniors. I didn't see the game last night, but the games I've watched they should both be here. Let's keep the Philly Youth Movement going

If MDZ will be healthy enough to play and Manning will be healthy enough to be the #7 a week from now, then waiving MacDonald and demoting Lyubimov gets you under the cap with 13 available forwards, Schenn on suspension, Laughton on IR, 7 D and 2 goalies.
They are two players I think Hextall would like to have on the roster, hence his comments last night about having to do things he might not want to. |

Right. But just to make things easy, let's say you have a season of 200 days and the TDL at 100 days. Let's say you use LTIR for the first 50 days, and then have $1M of cap space for the next 50 days. That leaves you with $250K of banked cap space. Since the season is half over, you can add up to $500K cap hit in a trade ($250k used, $250k remaining), correct? |

So be it. He is a #7 at best, no more. He's not a prospect any more, you've basically seen what he is. |

And you could have another 7th dman in Alt when healthy.
I would be ok risking losing Manning. |

Agreed. I mean, he seems like a really good, hard-working guy who's had to fight to get to where he is, which is commendable. In the end, that can only take you so far. |

well considering he's their easiest path to expansion compliance, I dont think Hextall is itching to give him up
And if it is a battle for the 7th defenseman, one option risks losing a player for nothing, another keeps all players (and risks losing your worst contract), thinking as a GM the decision isnt hard |

The issue is Manning and Laughton both played over 50 games so if we SOIR them we get their full cap hit against the cap. - dragonoffrost
you can't send down injured players also |

To start on the next path the Flyers will have to start making some tough choices. Read worked hard for them but now he could/should be probably the odd man out on the roster the way he has performed. Same Vandevelde.
They have to start getting the roster better. Even if incrementally. |

Agree, Morin is more than capable of taking those minutes if we need to call someone up. |

I agree. At the same time, I don't think he should be playing if the Flyers are trying to win as many games as possible this season.
Hell, if need be, you retain Schultz for one more year and let him know what the deal is. |

Yes, but since Manning's returned to practice, the thought is that he should be cleared by opening night. |

MacDonald will be left unprotected.
I think they will be fine. |
