Can you please tell me why teams are reluctant to use LTIR unless they have to? i honestly don't know all of the ramifications.
- jmatchett383

When using LTIR you are essentially over the Cap. LTIR cap space is not bankable. When not using LTIR, you can bank cap space during the season, and have the ability to take on a higher cap hit later in the season, due to cap hits being prorated. I think that's where Pannacio gets confused. You don't have to take on a players full cap hit at the deadline due to using LTIR, you just don't have the cap space.

so apparently all these injuries have us in cap hell
guess it would be a good time to trade read to one of those teams lined up to take him

Pannacio is incorrect on that. The cap has been around for 11 years, and he still doesn't know the rules.

Here's how I understand it:
If your team is $1 million under the cap without using LTIR, your daily cap "bank" is $1M/# of days in the season. However, if you are using LTIR, which means you're over the cap, your daily cap "bank" amount is zero. It's essentially the same thing as being exactly at the cap ceiling for those days. That about right?

The issue is Manning and Laughton both played over 50 games so if we SOIR them we get their full cap hit against the cap.

From what I saw it seemed to be as extra d so I took that as participating.

Maybe someone can confirm.

Just saw Del Zotto was only one not skating. So maybe he was rehapping. Not a 100% sure. but good sign.

Just want to take a quick poll in here after reading another one of the writer's blogs:

If someone had an issue and came to "talk it out" with you, do you think throwing a puck at them is an appropriate response?

Worded wrongly, but from how I now understand it, it decreases the amount of salary that they can take on as the season progresses (which includes the trade deadline).

If I think I understand what your saying, yes.

Here's an example. If you have 1M of unused cap space at the deadline, with for conversation's sake, there is 50 days left in the season that that point, with the season being 186 days. Barring any issues such as tagging space, you can take on a player with a 3.7M cap hit at that time.

I was more talking about the daily effect on using LTIR versus cap space. So it was more of a how does it affect you having that $1M (or whatever the number is) in usable space.

In other words, every day that you are using LTIR, you are given zero cap space for that day. Every day that you are x dollars under the cap, you get (x/# of days in the season) cap space for that day. Every day, you add up all of those days, and that is the amount of cap space that you can use to add to your roster (including trading for pro-rated contracts like you mentioned).

You're right, it was a true statement that was worded incorrectly. Looking at the Flyers though, I am not worried about any condition where they would need to add salary at the trade deadline, so the consequences are insignificant to me. I think getting under the cap at the beginning of the year while maintaining the depth they currently have is a more important obstacle

Not an appropriate response...seems rather childish. You wouldn't be referring to Stewie's blog at all now would you?
