You'd have to demote 1 defenseman as well, I think.
- jmatchett383

I was able to do this roster and have 937k in cap. No LTIR

Giroux
Simmonds
Schenn
Couturier
Voracek

Weal
Konecny
Weise
Bellemare
Gordon
Cousins
Laughton
Lyubinov

Del Zotto
Gudas
MacDonald
Provorov
Gostisbehere
Streit
Manning

Waived: Read, Vadevelde, Schultz

I really think that, of the guys not injured, Schultz has been the worst. He's not really good at anything in particular, and his foot speed is a huge concern for me. I know he's one of those guys that coaches love, but if they're really basing this on merit, he should be the one to sit/be demoted.

he is currently are best option to get hit with the puck on the PK though...he did such a good job against Ovechkin

I think they can waive Read, Vandevelde and one defenseman and be 937k under the cap without LTIR anyone.

If Manning is close to being ready he can be 7 defenseman.

Well if mdz is hurt we might not have a choice on d men

I think AMac is more than capable of being hit with a puck, as long as it's shot from within the defensive zone. If it's shot from the neutral zone, he has no shot of stopping it.

Provorov can take his minutes.

Del Zotto - Gudas
MacDonald - Provorov

Streit can fill in if someone in box.

If MDZ is hurt long-term, you LTIR his ass and I think that fixes things for the time being.

Would anyone trade Weal + 3rd round pick or Weal + Read + 5th for Yakupov?
- dominik7777

Edmonton would not, so it's moot.

Poor amac, if he had mannings contract we would be talking about how great he is....

Dammit Hommer, you ruined amac for us.

Christ, really? How much of a cap hit do we take at the deadline if we sue ltir?
- flyers4487

I THINK (someone else may know better) they are about 4 million or so over with 27 guys still on the roster including the injuries (Alt, Manning, Laughton).

And each player has a cap hit (minus reed and amac) of anywhere between 650-950k ish? I am sure there is a combo that doesn't screw the future of the team up.

waiving those 3 gets you about 2.6 million in cap space.

Read an article explaining that if they start using ltir now it will effect their cap number closer to the deadline. (It was on csn philly)

That's what I thought. Pannacio is uninformed. What he says there is not true. Using LTIR has no effect on how cap charges for player acquired during the season, at the deadline, or at any time, are counted on the cap.

The Flyers challenge will be maximizing their available cap space coming out of camp, due the injuries. It's a temporary situation.

I believe that is in reference to this:

"The Flyers could LTIR (long-term injured reserve) Laughton ($863,333), but if they do, they take a penalty hit at the trade deadline if they pick up any players. They get charged with the full cap and not the pro-rated amount"

Pannacio is incorrect on that. The cap has been around for 11 years, and he still doesn't know the rules.

Not surprised, I should have known better....I thought it odd, but at the same time I remember reading somewhere else about how players cap hits can change over the course of the year.

Can you please tell me why teams are reluctant to use LTIR unless they have to? i honestly don't know all of the ramifications.

A players cap charge to a team can change, which is determined by days of the season, For example if a player has a 4 M cap hit, and the season is 186 days long, then the cap hit for that player is 21,505 daily. So if a team acquires that player with 50 days left in the season, they will be charged 1,075,268 on the cap for that player. Using LTIR does not change how that is calculated for acquiring a player in season.
