Okay, and if the Blues are able to get him to play to his potential, then what?

Then they will be fortunate. Why pay more for something you can get for less?

Too mature. It's all Junie B. Jones, Magic Treehouse, Cam Jansen, and Marvin Redpost for me! Encyclopedia Brown can (frank) off though.

MJL, you are my boy. This is a civil conversation. You and I know this but I'm sure others do not. Two questions.

1. Have you kept up on Edmonton's most recent transactions lately?

2. How big of a deal would it be to trade Laughton who really isn't bringing it, Read who I feel not only should we trade but we have no room for him, or trade Weal who is likely to not become an NHL regular in the near future. How is any of this a high price for potential?

Yes, I have. Secondly, in my opinion, I think Yakupov is a bust, and always has been. I'm also open to the possibility that I could be wrong about that, and maybe a change in scenery, will help rebuild his career. We'll see. I personally think that the worst kind of player in hockey, is the offensive player, who doesn't put up enough points, so therefore doesn't have much value. I don't like that kind of player, and I don't want that kind of player in the lineup. I'm disappointed in what I've seen from Laughton this pre season. I thought he has lacked jump, lacked intensity, and wasn't playing with the pace he can play with. He played like a guy who thinks he has the team made. Even with that being said, I would not trade Laughton for Yakupov. I still see Laughton being the better player, if he can get his act together. I think Laughton needs to get healthy, and go down to the AHL for a while, and get his game back.
I think a trade of Weal would be just giving the guy a chance to go somewhere else, and he doesn't have much value. I don't think he's an every day NHL player.

Now for your weekly Shabbat news:

Josh Ho-Sang is Jewish, and was born in Toronto, Ontario. His hometown is Thornhill, Ontario, a Toronto suburb. He said he has "always celebrated the Jewish holidays like Chanukah and the High Holidays with family and friends." When he was 17 years old, Toronto Sun writer Steve Simmons, an expert on Jews in hockey, predicted that he “might be better than all” the previous Jewish ice hockey players

I did cut out the "in hockey" part, but it sounds better without it.

My shock was that Josh Ho-Sang, New York Islanders enfant terrible and a black guy with an Asian name, is in fact Jewish. I'm very confused with how I'm supposed to feel about him now. Hammar needs to make final judgment on the matter.

I like the Yak deal for the Blues. Kid has produced at times in the NHL and has talent. and if he pans out the price isn't that extreme. He's on the last year of his deal and can be jettisoned if he is not a fit.

They both play RW. Unless you meant imagine them together socially; then I would agree that they would make a cute couple.

Lecavalier doesnt have anything to do with it. Your statement that those players you listed were comparable to Read, is just another in a long list of inaccurate statements.
- MJL

He has as much to do with it as insinuating that a signed player is supposed to be better than a free agent, which you did.

I'm coming to that same conclusion with Weal...I see a weak player in his own end and in the neutral zone without high end offensive tools. He seems like the classic AHL top 6 center that will rack up points down there.

He didn't work with other talented young players. So there's a strong possibility he won't work in St Louis, too.

Thoughts on PEB being 3rd line center?
- PhillySportsGuy

I kind of prefer Cousins there.

I think it's temporary and could be upgraded, but prefer PEB on the wing.

Really not sure that BGordon was the right move this summer. I'm hopeful the bottom six and PK will benefit but have my doubts.

I think the biggest upgrade will be if Konecny sticks as a top six and Raffl gets bumped down.

Raffl, PEB, Weiss could make the bottom six more competitive. Hopeful about Lyubov too.

Cousins should definitely be centering the 3rd line. Not sure why coaches have such a problem giving young players a chance when they've earned it. Coaches always seem to go back to veteran grinders.

I don't think Gordon does much of anything for the team. We'll see if he helps the PK. Are they going to use him on the opening face-off of the PK instead of Couturier? Couturier is the better all around player, so I'm not sure that's the greatest idea.
