"Great signing, he's going to be a great 7th defenseman."

Agreed. The problem is it doesn't look like we are getting that proven player.

There is an excellent chance you are correct

Is this game televised against the caps? Finally back to decent wifi so I'll be able to watch it if it is

Well that's kind of my point. Rookies will never get better unless they play it's the coach's job to teach them. The Seidenberg signing was prophetic I'm shocked nobody saw this coming? I believe it was Staple that wrote that Pulock was the best islander in the preseason the game bfr last? Best + - up to that point. Funny how things changed after we signed Seidenberg. Let's see who is in the opening night line up.

Cappy has done a lousy job with young talent. If JT did not have all world talent he would be ruined as well. I'm not saying I want Mayfield in the top 4, but he should have been given a longer look over a guy like Strait.

Well Mayfield got pushed out now due to depth which is a good thing potentially Pulock on the other hand....

I'm going to wait and see who our coaching staff scratches as the 7th d. What I'm really not impressed with is Ryan strome. He doesn't seem to be any more productive so far this preseason, hopefully he'll start getting some points early in the season and get his confidence back.

PAP age 33 Chimera 37 Seidenberg 35.... The reason Snow signs these guys is for experience but we know darn well the MAG Four (JHS MDC BEUV BAR) plus PUL and others are going to move up. Likewise he surrendered a future pick on Prince since he was 23 so he could challenge with Quine. As a fan I can go with them building depth in the organization.

It is a legitimate observation that PITT went out and got experienced guys to surround Crosby Malkin and Kessell and Sullivan focused the team on playing full ice coverage.

Also a legit complaint that Cappy coaches these guys like 18 to 22 yr old College players with a simple game one dimensional game and doesn't teach them like experienced NHL players hut hopefuly that's changing.

Overall I like the team and the chance for the young players to move up.

KO left for a good opportunity but I also think BUF wanted to give him more of a leadership role because some writers have him slated for the second line.

I think JT has solidified his leadership and Ladder as a former Captain and PAP added to top line, but still this is JT's team. Also think CC gets the second line leadership role with his new contract.

Yeah who knows but Staple usually softens the blow for Capuanos moron personnel decisions. This looks like more of the same so based on past history it looks like another season of face palm coaching decisions starting with game one

Nothing would surprise me at this point but that would disappoint me. Will see what they do with the final cuts

I'm just taking it right out of Staple's season preview:

2. HAVE THEY SOLVED THEIR BREAKOUT ISSUES?

Certainly the Isles have been working on it these past two weeks. Transition out of the defensive zone is key and the defensemen who struggle with the first pass aren’t going to play — decision-making was a key reason Scott Mayfield was sent down and that Ryan Pulock may not start opening night.

It sounds, based on Staple's answers on twitter, that the decision to start Pulock in Bridgeport is just so they don't have to waive somebody to have Barzal and Beauvillier on the opening night roster. Just waive Berube at this point. They're going to have to address the 3 goalie thing anyway, so just try to sneak him through now and if he's claimed, so be it. For that to prevent Pulock from being on the opening night roster seems a little ridiculous to me.

Decision making......and here everyone was saying it was his skating.
- kindlyrick

Very hard to execute when you are a step behind. The guys primary issue is his skating.
If Scotty Bowman said his skating is an issue would you believe it?

That's why we should never be happy when we see a better veteran "7th" defenseman signed

The whole 3 goalie thing is a cluster Fack especially on this team where you have young talent that is ready to prove themselves and on top of that your #1 goalie who has publicly stated his dislike for it
Expect the unexpected even though it's expected with the Islanders

It's back to Garth being afraid to lose guys. He is going to have a very tough time with the expansion draft. How about we trade Strome or Nelson with de Haan or do we have to wait for the trade deadline?

I've never been happy about the "7th defenseman" signings. In fact I've pointed out every time how these guys will not be 7th defenseman. Just did it recently with Seidenberg again saw this coming the day we signed him while this thread was applauding it saying he'd make a perfect 7th defenseman

Stop thinking management and coaching will make a sound decision. Some of you guys will never learn
