WOW. Didn't realize they weren't in the line-up last night. Damn no tv or net coverage stinks.
- cabin

I am half assuming that due to the lines that were yesterday morning in practice before game. But that is how it has been all preseason, lines in morning practice same as game (unless injuries).

But it makes sense because most (if not all) those guys not playing did play night before.

I think Nylander should start in Rochester
No need to rush him

team speed is greatly improved with ennis and nylander in the lineup

Now just get to the regular season , and score 7 goals a night
- cabin

I sure hope so! I am scared we will play not to lose more than play to win (score lots of goals), but in the next year we might have so much talent they should score more goals. I think we have some great young players (not too many, but enough to fill open holes in roster).

You need to hold up a few minutes. The Hurricanes could have had a more "nhl" roster for this specific preseason game then us. Do you know they did not?

We were missing:
Lehner
Nilsson
Risto
Bogo
Kulikov
Gorges
Franson
Eichel
Reinhart
ROR (most of game)
Girgensons
Larsson
Di-Lo
Okoposo
Ennis
Foligno

So that is starting 2 goalies, 5 of 6 d men, and 9 of 12 forwards. Slow your roll.

Edit: Canes had 9 of 12 starting forwards and 3 of 6 starting d. Not sure of goalies.

So yea, they had a lot more NHL roster than we did, so their fans should be mad they did not destroy us.

Good info thanks.
The entire preseason has been pretty low scoring is my point...and I know it is preseason...so I'm not saying their O is GOING to suck...but it was a problem last year, that trend is continuing this preseason...which has me On Notice so to speak...a yellow flag has gone up in my mind.
I know they now have far more talent than at any time in the last say 3, maybe 4 years ... All I'm saying is DiscoDan needs to find a way to extract that potential from his guys to produce at at 3.0+ rate per game ... He has the talent to do so...figure it out.

It's a little concerning that in the two sets of back to back games, the Sabres have come out looking really flat in game two. Hopefully that's not an indication of things to come. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Hard to know for sure how things will look, especially when you consider that until this week, Eichel and ROR hadn't even played a preseason game, and now ROR only got 1/2 a period.

I'm pretty sure Carolina iced a similar roster (I didn't look), just remember something on here being posted.

Either way, I take nothing from pre-season.

I can't count the number of guys who look like Derek Grant in pre-season and end up back in the A before long. Same goes for the opposite, I have seen Miller and other goalies look horrible in pre-season

I am really 50/50 if he should be in Rochester. I think his speed allows him to keep up, but he will learn faster and improve quicker being in the NHL.

I mean, top 6:

Kane ROR Okoposo (if healthy)
? Eichel Reinhart

Bottom 6
Ennis Girgensons Foligno
Moulson Larson Deslauier

I think we need a top 6 guy (maybe 2 depending on Okoposo), to start the season at least, so give him 9 games and see how it goes.

Every second game had an entire new lineup. So I understand, but not same players, hard to gauge what you are saying with that variable.

I know, which is part of why it seems strange to me. This preseason seems to be so much longer than usual.

It's because of the World Cup. The NHL season is starting later because of it. By this time we're used to a home opener and a 2nd game but now we're still a week away.

Bailey scored a SHG last night. Good for him. Him, Fasching, Nylander, and Grant are all fighting for one potential spot that none of them might get. The competition seems to be bringing out the best. If Nylander can start getting on the score sheet he could maybe get the inside track.

Friday night vs the Sens is our last preseason game . Chances we see the opening night roster?

I wouldn't think that high. Bailey, Nylander, Fasching, Grant probably all play. Ennis and ROR are probably in. Maybe Jack since he didn't get much time since the WCOH.

I'm just ready for the season at this point. Let's get the games started already

In the event Disco Dan doesn't roll 3 scoring lines, Ennis will be in the top 6

Also, Gionta plays over Deslauries. If Ennis gets chemistry with Girgensons or Moulson or someone else in the bottom 6 I have no problem rolling 3 scoring lines. I've even said I think our lines might look nice like

Kane-ROR-Okposo (Very big line)

Moulson-Eichel-Reinhart (Put Moulson in a spot to succeed)

Ennis-Girgensons-Bailey (Assuming Bailey makes it. Could also be Fasching. Could also be Nylander and then have Ennis back on the RW)

Foligno-Larsson-Gionta (I keep them together because of last year)

I don't expect these lines, just saying it could be a nice spread of talent

Agreed. As impressive as Bailey has been, I think GMTM wants to give him just a bit more time in the AHL before he ends up with the big club full time next year.

Well, for one, it started later because of the World Cup.

I think you have to plug 3 time 20+ goal scorer Ennis into the Top 6. The Sabres have to see what they have with him and let him play with good players. Otherwise his $4.5 million salary is being wasted on the 3rd line.

Speed doesn't matter.

Ask the Stanley Cup finalists.
