Tanner, I also recommend reading this article by Jim Rutherford. He covers a lot of topics, like how the Hawks mishandled Trevor Daley. The part I think you would find interesting is when and how he uses his analytics dept. |

Man, everything needs more Oilers. If you like hockey, you're gonna like watching the Oilers this year, that's all there is to it. They may suck and I may have to wait until next year to predict a fourth straight breakout year, but either way, they will be fun to watch. - James_Tanner

You're missing the point, I'm shooting holes in Tanners predictions, nothing else to see here |

Any info on who the Coyotes are dressing tonight? It'd be nice to see a full compliment of young talent. |

Well it does seem to get more confusing than I initially thought. Either way, clearly we should be expanding to Mexico. - James_Tanner
That's all I was trying to tell you.
How they come up with the numbers is very convoluted. There's metro areas, combined statistical areas(which is how NY gets its ~23M people), and there's urban areas, and metroplexes. And then to make matters even more confusing there's the megalopolis, and the Great Lakes one has ~55M people. When people talk about how big a city is, usually, maybe they do it differently in the GWN, but usually, they use the metro area numbers.
Sure I was a bit sarcastic, but it is the internet and everything, and you are the king of sarcasm. So I figured you'd pick up on it. |

Thrilled to have traded Matteau straight up for Smith-Pelly. Idk what DSP did to Montreal to deserve that, but man am I happy to have him as a Devils fan. Matteau has no tools capable of being NHL caliber besides his size. Literally brings nothing to the plate. and I'll be the first to say I was excited about his being drafted, just not at 30th overall. DSP is a nice fit though for us and is clearly more valuable to us than Matteau or the Habs for that matter |

Canucks finish higher than both the Oilers and the Coyotes...you can take that to the 💰 my friend. - LeftCoaster
Canucks were second worst in shots against. Second worst in goals for. Their two highest scorers and only players to score more than 40 points are 36. Their goalie, the only reason that second worst shots against total didn't convert to a horrid goals against total (although still bottom ten) is also 36 years old. Their prospect group and young player group is garbage. Their last two management teams rival Doug McLean in terms of ineptitude.
They stand no chance at finishing better than bottom 5, and anything higher than last place, which is highly likely, is just plain counter-productive for the organization. The only good thing that can come from this season for the Canucks is Nolan Patrick. That's their best case scenario. |

Well....for starters, I'm not sure what that has to do with finishing ahead of Edmonton and Phoenix? They can still finish bottom five and finish ahead of those two, which they will!
Also, I'm not disagreeing they NEED a few more good draft picks, so finishing near the bottom is really not an issue for most. If, as Linden says, they've spoken to Desjardins about being much better defensively, and they can stay healthy, then I see them around the 20th position. Give or take a few spots.
Two years ago they were middle of the pack (17th) in shots against, they scored 242 goals and allowed 222 for a +20 differential with the same core. I don't think it's out of the question to think they'll be a lot more competitive this year. But who knows, health is such a big swing factor.
And finally, "Their prospect group and young player group is garbage" statements like this is just pure ignorance on your part, which is nothing new. It's also completely false.

You see a team that can't score goals, who's two top scorers and goalie are just about to retire, not can defend, and are the worst in the league in almost every category, as "somewhere around the 20 spot".
They only way they catch 20th place is if they're relegated to the AHL. And even then it's not a sure thing.
And yeah, the Canucks group of anything under the age of say, 22, is bottom of the league. Bottom 5 easily.

But Linden spoke tob Desjardins about better playing defence, so I'm sure they'll be fine.

your ignorance is laughable, every professional ranking has their prospect pool as middle of the NHL pack. Which isn't bad for only building for the past say three years.
The age of the Sedins has nothing to do with the teams ability to currently compete, they're still really strong players offensively if healthy. Daniel finished 35th in NHL scoring, if you'd have bothered to look.
Markstrom is better than Miller, he'll play more than half the games, he's also better than any of the Leafs goaltenders |

Then he's going to be fired. What Vancouver really needs is to replace Linden and Benning. They are beyond awful. Easily the worst management in hockey . |
