I'll go out on a limb and say Nystrom wasn't released yet before Bernier was invited plus we have Boulton
- Vukota

No, he wasn't. And I agree, it's not in the organizations best interest to have to cut the son of a player like Bob. It could only lead to problems/bad feelings. This organization has estranged enough of our past revered players. No need to add another to the list.

I agree with you......the only think i can think of is they dont wanna offend Bobby if they cut or bench his son???
- kindlyrick

Why do I remember readI get he didn't want his son anywhere near the islanders?

Nystrom is a terrible forward and was a fourth liner his entire career. Not sitting here saying Bernier was any sort of amazing player, but he was a passable 3rd line forward or a good 4th liner.

I know you don't want Nystrom, but this is purely a matter of who is father is here. If his last name was something else I don't think you, or anyone, would have batted an eye.

Nystrom got a 4 year $10 mill contract from Dallas at one point. I am guessing they did not share your "terrible forward" thought when they offered it to him.

Because a few years back when he was a UFA, the isles were still considered a joke around the league. That and the cheap isles prob didnt wanna spend 2.5 shmill on a grinder.

I mean, Rick DiPietro got a 15yr $60M contract. A player's contract isn't necessarily indicative of whether or not they're good.

He's as bad as Boulton. I didn't say he was a dinosaur, just that he sucks. And he does.
- eichiefs9

That's absurd.. sorry. Yes, I am very biased b/c he grew up in Long Island and played in the same rinks My kids is playing right now... and yes he is Nystrom's kid. In reality I get why he would never be an Islander for that fact alone. How would u ever cut him without insane outrage from everyone. ... but He is a good, Hard hitting, tough to play against hockey player who made a nice career for himself.

Thats your opinion. I trust the NHL brass who are directly involved over the everyday on goings of players to sign said player, than who you think is good at the NHL level.

Usually Money is a pretty good indication of your value as a hockey player. That and stats.. his stats are similar or better than Bernier... much better than Boulton.

When he signed in Dallas, i thought the isles shoulda signed him. As it stands right now, there really is no need for him.

I meant that present-day Nystrom is as bad as present-day Boulton, not that he was for his entire career. He did make a nice little career for himself as a gritty 4th liner and I'm happy he was able to do that.

My only point was that signing him for the sake of nostalgia would be a poor decision.

And I think that DiPietro was just immature because he wore Hasek's number

Dipietro was immature for a lot more reasons than wearing a number. A more arrogant player you might not find......

I love how you're still hung up on this number 66 thing......watch there be an article about him wearing that number at some point this year. I certainly didnt make up the fact that noone else wears one of the greatest forwards to ever play the games number.

In all seriousness I do remember reading that somewhere? There were a lot of fans interested in drafting him before they realized he sucked
