9-7 and 8-8 will never be above average... point is sabres have been to the playoffs in the 2000's. unlike the bills. but way to completely skip over my point on why the sabs will be a playoff team. Now i remember why i stopped coming around here. You guys stink

53% of NHL teams make the playoffs every year (16 out of 30).

Only 38% of NFL teams make the playoffs every year (12 out of 32). If the NFL had a 16 team playoff format, you wouldn't be able to say that about the Bills. The Bills have their issues, and just about every decision they make ends up being the wrong one, but this is apples and oranges.

Hoping to see much more jump in their step tonight than they had on Friday.
- HonkFortheGoose

I think a bunch that played friday have been sent back to their junior/nigh school teams . RoR isn't playing until tomorrows game .

His point was that the way the Sabres played in the second half of the 2015-16 season gives us every reason to believe they will be good this year.

In every one of your responses, you two Schleprock's tried to turn it into a conversation about the Bills and Ted Nolan, presumedly because that fits your narrative more closely.

Strike three. Surrender.

Sabres won 15 games from Feb to Apr. Three of those wins were against a team that made the playoffs. 1 of those was that last game of the year nobody cares about.

There's absolutely reason for optimism, but the 2nd half of last season is not it.

I haven't gone back and really looked, but I remember hearing Murray say that if they had won 1 more game per month over the course of the whole season, they would have made the playoffs.

I never said a word about the former coach of this franchise at all, or the Bills until it was brought up by someone else. Balk. I will now advance to second.

A lot of bad teams have better records in the 2nd half than the first. The pressure's not there and they face back up goaltenders more often than not. There are more than enough samples than can be found by simply spending 3 minutes on hockeydb.

Their defense corps, to me, is nowhere near playoff caliber. You have to get to the playoffs, at a minimum, to be considered "good". That says you are better than more than half of the teams in this league, which is an incredibly low bar. Anything else is just plain homerism.

murray also didn't make that move in december/jan to help them get that extra win or 2

if mccabe takes 2 steps forward and risto takes another step, they are good enough to be a playoff d

the are probably already better than dallas stars d from last year, one more reason why I want this coach to open it up

True, but you don't know if he was making calls or not. For all we know, the asking prices were too high to get that player. I wouldn't exactly say we were in a position last year that making a move that would have cost too much would have been a smart move.

As well as Johnson played for the most part last year, if you have a more legit #1 goaltender in there, you probably also get those extra 8 or so wins you needed. He had a tendency to somehow stand on his head all game and then allow the worst goal possible at the worst moment possible in the game. Kind of like Fitzpatrick always throws an interception at a key moment of the game.

One win a month (including April), equates to 7 wins. That would give them 95 points, which puts them ahead of Detroit.

Not exactly an overwhelmingly difficult task when you look at it that way. Though Kevin Allen seems to think we finish with less point this year than last year.

I actually think they end up hovering around the same place this year. Again, this defense corps gives me zero confidence it can hold its own over the course of an 82 game season. If a trade is made somewhere along the line, my opinion might change.

If Ristolainen or even McCabe were to get hurt, they have no one capable of replacing them. That's pretty weak.

Even if Eichel were to get hurt, you could still roll out ROR, Reinhart, and Girgensons as your centers.
