Greene, Severson, Lovejoy and Moore are pretty much locks and Auvitu is making a strong case. Really wish Merrill could show some consistency.

fwiw, Merrill hasn't been too bad tonight. We'll see what the 3rd looks like.

Agreed, hopefully this is the year he puts it together and looks like an NHL defenseman instead of a #7/ injury replacement.

Question. If you had to play Larsson or Auvitu, who do you start? He seems to be the defensive equivalent of Lars and far superior in the offensive third.

Thoughts?

Need to see Auvitu play regularly against NHL players before even thinking of calling him the defensive equivalent of Larsson, but it sure is nice to watch a Dman with an offensive touch.

Agreed. I would bet if you pulled out the historical data, Lars doesn't have 5 combined assists in the preseason in his entire career.

Our PK better be real good this year with Lovejoy parading to the box.

To be fair though, I like him very much too. Looks like a solid effort from people we'll be counting on. Frenchie, Bennett, and Zacha

Good to see some chemistry and scoring

I know it is preseason and all but hoping we can cut down on the penalties, been too many stupid penalties taken

I think having zacha and cam together and having 3 lines that can score will be beneficial

Really liked zachas game tonight

I wish it wasn't NHL or OHL for Zacha. Idk what that rule is or why it exists. Maybe they don't want the under 20's getting roughed up in the AHL. He doesn't turn 20 by December I believe is why he'd go to juniors.

I fear we may be rushing him. He's got promise, but to my eyes I'd rather see him start in the AHL, but it is what it is.

His birthday is in April actually. I believe if you turn 20 before the next year or something then you can play in the AHL. For example Blackwood turns 20 in Nov and he is being sent down to Albany.

I thought zacha was ahl eligible because he played first in the Czech league then. In the ohl but I could be wrong or mixed up on that.

If the Devils drafted him out of Europe and then he went to Sarnia, then he would be eligible for Albany.

Auvitu has been the most impressive non-regular in my opinion. He has a very Rafalski-esque calm to his game and he seems to be involved in the offensive third, every time he is on the ice. Bennett has 1 terrible game and 1 good game under his belt, so I think the jury is still out. Zacha looked good to me and not just because of the goal and the assist. I really liked the efforts I've seen from Wood in the games I've seen him play in and, I wouldn't mind seeing him in a few regular season games at the expense of Kalinin or JJ.

That's good to hear ! I think we have a few steals in the system and I am very excited about that. Wouldn't mind exploring the option of traded two of our seconds this year for another first and then see who we can add for free with all our cap in free agency. Still curious as to what KK would fetch if wedgy beats him out for the back up or if we just try and sneak him through waivers.

1 more observation. Andy Greene has not looked very good on the PP. I think every single shot attempt he has taken on the PP has been blocked at the top of the box. He's also bobbled quite a few pucks in the blue line.

I had high hopes for Auvitu since we signed him. I see merril as the 7th defender already. Hall, Zacha, and Bennett all played well.

It's called the Girardi Syndrome. Boychuk was diagnosed with it last season too.
