The only thing you could base this on is potential. And not only is he still young and has potential left, but he's also proven far more than Bennett.
You don't get to have it both ways.
At present there's no proof Bennett is better. And this would be much of your argument saying nuge might have a higher ceiling than many NHL 2c's, but he hasn't proven it over the long haul yet.
That said, nuge is ahead of him on every depth chart in the league today - HB77

Very true... He's clearly a #2 on Calgary. - laughs2907
James obviously asks for it, but generally speaking, oiler discussion always brings out so much silly hyperbole and irrationality .
But yes, they've been bad for far too long. But It seems the real reasons behind it and the potential solutions totally elude most people

Another year of missing the playoffs and people will have McDavid listed as a #2C
Scroll down and take a look at the difference when you slide the mouse across the pic... That guy is actually sitting down!!! Rogers Place says it's being corrected though...

"(frank) you peasant. Just pay your tax money to pay for my building and shut up about seating.
No?! I'll take the team and go elsewhere then"

From what I've seen, it looks beautiful, but I'm blown away that they missed the mark so much with this seating issue... You'd think they would have had that down to a science.
Imagine Harrison Katz's fro sitting in front of you...
First round picks (especially where the Oilers have been picking) has been obvious picks... To say that the Oilers wouldn't need scouts if our 1st and 2nd round selections are gone is one of the most idiotic things I have ever heard. Scouts are needed moreso for rounds after 1 and 2...
And I'm not proposing any trades at this time, I'm merely stating that trades happen all of the time and picks are often included in trades. - laughs2907
In fairness I believe you took my scouts comment poorly. For one, I did not say anywhere that the Oilers would not need ANY scouts, so the idiocy is all yours there. I did say, in the context of the article (which I ALSO said) , that essentially scuttling the ship of your top draft picks for 2 or more years is folly (just ask the Rangers).
Proper scouting, especially after the 1st and 2nd rounds is extremely vital, we are completely on the same page there, and internal development is in my opinion the #1 key to making a championship team in the salary cap parity era, and it is becoming more apparent by the year that this is the case.
In case you change your mind about trading, we will happily trade you McDavid for Gaudreau...

Our second line centre is Mikael Backlund. Do the corsi comparison, son.

Fair enough... You said that if the Oilers traded their 1st and 2nd round picks for the next two years, half of the scouts could be fired... I still think that's stupid. Incredibly stupid actually... Even if we didn't get a 1st or 2nd rounder coming back in another trade that occurs within those two years, it's still stupid. Wait, am I allowed to say stupid these days?
Gaudreau is awesome... A great example of why scouts beyond rounds 1 and 2 are so important. Pay the man! He deserves to be Calgary's highest paid player.
You have a great point. As a Flames fan, I hope they don't do it, and continue with the defence they have so we have a chance to outscore them... If they can get either Trouba or Lindholm, there is no reason why they shouldn't offer a first rounder and Eberle or Nurse for that deal to happen. Yeah, it's kind of overpaying. But Edmonton has the resources, and the window, as you've said.

I WAS being completely sarcastic about the scouts thing in my post to Tanner. I think from now on when I'm being sarcastic, I'm going to put (sarcasm) in brackets, if not just to avoid having to type this much from my phone to clarify, it takes for franking ever...

Actually, sarcasm or not, you may have been onto something... Edmonton's scouts haven't been very good anyway.... I mean other than make those easy picks, they haven't done much (if anything at all) that can be seen as positive. Fire all those (frank)ers...

If the Oilers could unload Nurse on the Jets for Trouba that would be close to a Hall for Larsson style rip off. Nurse is unlikely to ever be anywhere close to as good as Trouba. He has struggled badly so far in his NHL career and while I am not writing him off yet, I think people's expectations for his ceiling need to be severely adjusted. - James_Tanner
In a season of no insulation, as a rookie, playing too many high end minutes? This struggle is to be expected.
As I said, Nurse improves every year.
Trouba's numbers have slipped year after year, and he is playing 3 deep. Don't get me wrong, Trouba is good, but I see no reason to trade Nurse for him.
