Whether it scrubs or not, 3 shutouts in a row is impressive. All of these guys look like they're on the same page. Lots of speed and effort on every shift. This organization looks very well coached. |

Even in the DB days the organization was pretty cohesive. Similar playing styles for the big club and affiliates. But this is just a fun, simple system to watch. And then the commitment to acquiring guys with tenacious speed across the system. |

Biggest thing is Jarry's play. If he can prove that he belongs it makes trading either Fleury or Murray A LOT easier. |

I watched most the game today. Didn't even notice pouliat. Except this one time when he made a bad pass then threw a 2 second his system fit with his hands acting like it was the receivers fault. |

1. Goalie depth is so critical in hockey... glad we have the #1 ranked system in the NHL from an organizational standpoint.
2. Unless the Pens want to burn cap apace, there is no need to carry any extra players for the first month... they play in the central and eastern time zones the month of October.
3. What is our cap space projected at?
4. Rumors of Scuderi retiring is being thrown around... that would be phenomenal...
5. Has Kessel been practicing?
6. Tommy K continues to imptess me... he's made huge strides and i can see him playing LW2 or 3 Center real soon... |

I had no idea Jarry was so good at handling the puck. He's been fantastic in these games.

Their cap space this year will be the difference between their opening day roster, which they will try to push as close to 73M as possible to maximize their, LTIR savings from Dupuis, and their actual roster. 19 spots are guaranteed because they are guys they won't even try to sneak through waivers, basically the 12 forwards and 6 defensemen who played in the playoffs plus Fleury.
They have a roster that is exactly 73M with Jarry, DiPauli, Guentzel, and Pouliot on the roster. (Murray and Jarry are very close so if they can't send Murray down due to injury its only 2,500 difference.) If they then send those 4 down and recall Murray, Warsofsky, and Wilson they would have 1,142,500 in cap space. They also have 515k in potential bonus overages.
It's not much space. If Murray starts the season on regular IR, they literally could not call up another player after Jarry without putting someone on LTIR. If Scuderi retired after rosters were set, that would be a godsend. I haven't heard that and for what he's making this year I'd be shocked.
That's why a cap clearing move to add flexibility for call ups or trade deadline aquitions wouldn't shock me. If mid-season Pouliot and Guentzel were shown worthy of spots, it would cost the team about a million in cap space...all their room and guaranteeing overages. And that's why you'll hear Fehr's name thrown around. It's not because he isn't a good player, its that replacing him with say Sundqvist adds another 1.3M and opens up a lot more options. Otherwise, they are walking a tightrope all year, and we saw that not work out before when they were forced to play with 5 defensemen a couple years ago. |

Now, has all of his play been as impressive? Is it time to start thinking about seriously considering Jarry the next in line after Flower?
Keep Flower trade Murray for an equal 'prospect' & have Jarry backing up? I really don't see that as an option due to;
1. cap space
2. Jarry needs to play a full year as #1 in the A
3. We would want a 'now' player for Murray not a prospect & we don't have the cap space.
So I guess it's au revoir Fleur. |

Murray to Winnipeg for Lowry + pick. Something like that.
It's always good to bring a B+ young winger. |

The sad thing is I think you are serious with this. He isn't a B+ young winger. I'd say more like C+. |

Yes Talbot won't take them to the promised land, but we don't need another C! Now that nice new shiny wing prospect they have would be nice to get before they break it! |

The Peg don't need Murray. They're are very well stocked with G (Pavalec excluded there ). They need Pouliot! |

Lowry's ceiling looks to be bottom six. Even if it was Lowrey and a first that trade sounds poopty. There's no deal to be had with Winnipeg. They have Helly. |

It was somewhat tongue in cheek but a lot of the players WBS has are nice, young hardworking guys.
I look for cuts here today and it will be interesting to see who gets some extended looks with a little more NHL talent on the ice. The two main guys would be Guentzel and Pouliott. Guentzel because he deserves it and Pouliott to see if management is happy with his play or not. Archibald would be another, after having seemed to take a step back last season, he had a good game last night. |
