Dan, don't be shocked if Pulock loses playing time or goes back to Bridgeport. Capuano is the coach after all, and he loves playing guys that are older and played in the Boston area because of their "battle level". Let's not forget, when Pulock scored his first NHL goal, and had a great game overall against Nashville (was the only one that showed up to play). He got scratched for 4 games in favor of strait and zidlicky.

Im laughing over here......when i post an article you scoff at it and chirp the writer. Now all of a sudden Staple is the talent guru? I think when Mayfield first came up yes his foot speed was slow. Last season I watched him and he did not look out of place at all. Its improved tremendously......i think its lazy journalism honestly. I guess Brian Straits footspeed was up to par.....to be an NHL regular?

You posted an article from a website that collects blog posts written by non-credentialed, nobody writers. I'm posting the information that the team's only dedicated beat writer published in an actual newspaper. If you can't see the difference between the two then I can't help you.

Your own personal talent analysis on anyone means nothing.

I posted an article that was factual......regardless of the writer. I didnt realize that Arthur Staple was Walter Cronkite. Its just funny to me that if I say black you say white.

None of our talent analysis means anything.....cause we're all being paid to work and posting on hockeybuzz.

It has nothing to do with Staple, you're getting way too hung up on that. If you plucked Vukota out of here and gave him a job following the inner-workings of the Islanders 24/7 then I would believe what he reported too.

If a whole slew of professional hockey scouts say that Mayfield is a poor skater, I hate to break it to you...but then he's a poor skater.

This is ridiculous man.......im saying when they drafted Mayfield his footspeed needed work. Im also saying that last season he did not look slow or out of place.....its improved to a point where he looked like he belonged in the NHL.

Lastly......he's not the best option for the top 6 dmen.......but I dont think its because of his footspeed. He got caught up in the numbers game.

Footspeed can be starts and stops or how fast he accelerates or explosivness pivots ect and if hes down low doing stops and starts with most top six guys they are going to lose him. Hes big which is great but maybe he need to do what jt did and work with a pro all summer to improve. He has potential but not as much as pulock or pelach now strait well no one knows why he was out ther but lets all be happy hes the jets problem just like amac is phillys

The good news is the isles have depth and can let him work on his skating if he passes waivers you can teach skating you cant teach size and meanness and he has those

[quote=Dan Petriw]I really want Mayfield to succeed. He is a great kid, but he has to be quicker to play in this league. This isn't 1997. If you can't skate you don't play/quote]

This is exactly what I take issue with.......his skating is not how you're portraying it. Phuck sakes, Brian Strait had a regular shift, and he was atrocious.

- kindlyrick

I've watched him play over 60 times live. I'm not grasping at straws when I come to this opinion. I hope I'm wrong, he is a good kid

Not for nothing kindlyrick but do you have to argue with everything on here??

Every time someone makes a point you argue. I wonder if u a lawyer. You object to everything.

IT is so obvious that Mayfield is a step below everyone right now. He is slow and has a lot to learn. WE have better options and he is the low guy on the totem pole

Hey man, just cause i disagree with what you said, doesn't mean im right. I just felt differently. I've never met him, but I like his upside. The fact that he's willing to play the body and stick up for his teammates, makes him alright in my book.

I just don't see how we can use footspeed as a benchmark to the NHL, when Brian Strait had a regular shifts for multiple seasons.

Did you miss him playing in the western Canada trip?? I actually think Mayfield's top end speed is fine. It's his starts and stops and first step is where he gets exposed

You can't use Brian Strait as an example. He has pictures of Cappy banging Snow's wife hence all his playing time.

Im not sure where all the talk of Mayfield being a bad skater comes from. I mean is he Nick Leddy....no, but for a big man with that big reach, good hands, and willingness to take the body......he's a serviceable NHL dman.
- kindlyrick

I agree. He's not a great skater by any means but he's adequate enough and to me he's positionally sound. He was better than our 6th or 7th last season without question.

OK how about Mayfield playing with seven D and shifting him on the fourth line?

With a one way contract he may clear waivers but I think they have every intention of keeping him. Many teams now have the situation of a lot of young players on the bubble.

Point being I'd take him over the smooth skating Strait or even the diarrhea on ice Zidlicky any day of the week. It's all relative

ugh, I want no part of a defenseman playing on the 4th - any forward line really.

we have a deep enough roster that we don't need to do that crap.
