The prediction is wishful thinking mostly based off a lack of objectivity and bias. What important player did the Hawks lose from last years team? Shaw I guess and a bunch of average guys. They have the exact same team pretty much yet with BETTER defensive depth with the signing of Campbell and Kempny, not to mention the development of Forsling.

NOW, if they have a key injury or two you bet they could miss the playoffs. So there is your caveat. I am pretty sure the Hawks MAKE the playoffs if the key pieces miss limited time.

Predictions of the Hawks to miss the POs is predicated on a HUGE "if", IF they lose games to injury. Conversely, one could make a prediction the Hawks will win the Cup "if" Schmatlz can become a good LW for Toews, if Hinostroza, Fortin and Hartman can be solid bottom 6 players. But because I don't predict based on "if", I am not putting the Hawks in the Cup. Right now, they look like a 4-6 seed in the West depending on how the "IFs" go.

I say Calgary wins the west, Johnny Hockey has more points than Taylor Hall, Chi town does make the playoffs and McDavid does indeed have a reasonable shot at the scoring title. (Oh, and who cares about the Flyers anyways..)

Good chance with McDavid going 115mph faster than everyone else he crashes and is out for 1/2 the season again. I wouldn't bet money he wins the scoring race due to injury.

Flyers have lots of room for internal growth, but are still one of those bubble teams. Injuries, or some other factor could keep them out. If they play up to their capability, they should be a playoff team.

No. I do agree that Trouba has an upside greater than Gardiner, but the reason I wouldn't do that trade is because with Gardiner and Rielly on two separate pairings, the Leafs are better than if they had Rielly and Trouba on one pairing.

It'd be great for the Leafs to get Trouba, but if it costs Rielly or Gardiner, it's really just a lateral move. I am certain that two pretty good pairings will win you more games than one great pairing and a terrible one.

Trouba still has a chance to develop into a top pairing defenseman, and is RH. Gardiner will never be a top pairing defenseman. Leafs should make that trade if offered.

Trouba still has a chance to develop into a top pairing defenseman, and is RH. Gardiner will never be a top pairing defenseman. Leafs should make that trade if offered.

Anyways, Trouba is probably better than Gardiner at his peak, but like I said, having two top-pairing guys on separate lines is better than having a super line. Leafs should get Trouba, but not at the cost of Gardiner.

If the Leafs had more than 2 good dman at this point, I wouldn't be too adamant against it, but for now it's not a sensible trade.

No, it hasn't been proven at all. Something that is not true, can't be proven. Maybe in your world, and with your blatant misuse and lack of understanding of how to use analytics, he is, but in the real world of hockey, Gardiner is a 2nd pairing puck mover.
