Am I the only one who thinks we shouldn't bother trading for a dman yet until we see what we have in our system and what Babcock can make of them? So many great dmen n the league that weren't first round picks..

This need to trade for a dman right now and to trade JVR right now or its doom and gloom doesn't make sense to me. We're not on the verge of anything. Let's just see what we have in our own system before we start trading picks and prospects for guys that need big dollar long term deals.

We know what we have in Gardiner. Trouba is better. If they want any of the young kids we have on D politely tell them to shove it.

exactly. this isnt the time.

this year is to complete the purge and to give the kids in the current system a chance to show what they have.

Gardiner imo is under rated. I don't want Troubas attitude and contract demands and ice time demands near this team. And if I can read Babcock and Lou's and Shanahans thoughts through media reports, they don't want that kind of personality near this team.

We gave up a couple picks to get a potential starting goalie without hurting our prospect depth.

We still have some pretty full cupboards. Giving up a dman prospect and forward prospect or 2 ain’t gonna hurt us long-term.

The one key need we have his another nhl ready top 4 dman. It’s the only big trade I’m interested in seeing.

I hear you, and it's not a though I'm opposed to a painfully slow rebuild. I'm in this for the long haul. It's more that I see a valuable chip in JVR that I don't imagine is part of the long term plan of this team. I also see a defenceman in Lindholm that I believe is capable of being a real contributor to the success of a team and is also of an age that fits with the Leafs core.

The simple hockey math tells me that would be a good deal for Toronto. But who knows. Maybe Matthews and JVR mesh well and he resigns at a good price, and maybe Lindholm will suck in two years.

You can speed things up without selling the farm by acquiring a couple key players.

Edmonton’s rebuild was ass backwards. They let they forwards rot and drove goalies out of town; having them play with a bunch of scrub dmen.

I don’t expect to see that happen here.

Hey guys . We are getting the TSN feed on our Sabres channel (MSG) for tonights game . What are those guys like . I'm sure we will hear Matthews name 100 times before the first whistle . Even though he isn't playing .

^This x 10.

If there is a chance to get a top 4 D around the same age as Rielly without losing one of Marner, Nylander, Matthews....you do it...even if it's a 1st round pick going the other way.

It's the only missing piece. It would be the first time in a long time we didn't have to talk about "if we only player X to play with player Y",

If a trade is made for Trouba that includes Nylander/Marner or a first along with Gardiner then someone on the leafs head office needs to be escorted off the premises.

Good luck. Getting that top 4 D man will cost . getting those players will put a dent in your cupboard . Might have quantity but quality is what they will want . And your judge of quality might not be what the other GM thinks .

Pretty good. It's usually Chris Cuthbert and Ray Ferraro doing the game call, much better than anything offered by CBC/Rogers/MSG/ESPN/etc.

The folks in the studio are usually decent too, especially Bobby Mac, McLennan, Duthie etc
