What I think is Stetcher played one good game yes and he looks to be the better player at this very moment. But in order for him to make the team, he needs to play at this level for the rest of preseason, and hope that Larsen doesn't find good form. I expect Larsen to get better in the next couple games and that could make the waiver factor the deciding one.

I'm hoping that Larsen steps up.

From what I saw of his college playoffs, that just looks like the way Stecher plays, at least in the offensive zone.

but yeah, it is the preseason, no need to rush any decisions.

Ok, I can buy the waivers argument, but c'mon, more proven? He couldn't even crack Edmonton's D-core and then ran to the KHL. He's going to have to match Stetcher at this point because the Canucks are only going to carry one PP QB for the 3rd pairing and right now based on performance, it ain't Larsen.

IMO Larsen is more proven because he's played a few years of professional hockey, where Stetcher hasn't. People are just really going overboard with the whole Stetcher thing....Jesus. He's a talented talented kid obvious, but he played one good game.

Edler obviously helped make Stetcher look better in that he was winning puck battles down low in our end with his size and strength, something Stetcher will have issues with. Edler also made a nice play at the line on Stetchers pass to Rodin, that play by Edler gave Stetcher a lot of time and space to make that play.

I hope he knocks it outta the park but people need to cool their jets and let it happen first.

Exactly, condemning either guy or granting either of them a spot at this point would be silly, I just think the odds are with Larsen unless he shts the bed and Stetcher pulls a Hutton.

Fixed....

So me saying that he is better than Sbisa is what you consider being on par with Pratt comparing him to Bure.

Like most times , you are again out in left field

Larsen has to give the club a glimpse of offense.

It seems that many players want to show they aren't a defensive liability, but I think showing the offense, at least a little, is more important if they want to stay with the club and can add what others haven't- those pp qb qualities...

I guess this is the same challenge many teams have, a bunch of players they don't want to expose to waivers, and a murky picture of who they should play. and waiting for players to seize the opportunity and step up and make the decision a no brainer.

seems a little strange looking forward to these exhibition games so much to see who stands out.

This morning, Pratt called him the most exciting player the Canucks have seen since Pavel Bure.

Sorry, I just see Larsen playing in SJ against mostly junior/ECHL/AHL bound talent with some PTOs and a few NHL regs and not even doing anything when if he's supposed to be more 'proven' and pegged to be the QB of PP2, I'd have expected him to be visible and at least drive the play offensively. I watched both preseason games and Stetcher by far was better in that regard.

He probably was, but Stetcher was playing against less than NHL competition as well. Just my opinion but you don't judge players over a one game each span. I hope they both play well and make it hard on the coaching staff, two good offensive guys is better than one!

no....I'm not a Leaf fan who most around here chastise for being so optimistic about kids that have never played a game. I love what Stetcher did, kids a winner, but, I'd like to see him against an NHL roster and I'd like to see him do that on a consistent basis.

He has experience, but proven? he has proven he couldn't hold a roster spot in the NHL before leaving for the KHL.

Yannick Weber has 274 games that says he is more proven, and we have seen that Weber has proven he, at best, is a 6/7 dman.

It is nice to see Stecher show his offensive ability, Larsen has to show his quality.

To be fair, Hutton wasn't an 18 year old kid either. I understand the need for offense on the back end, it can help make the game much much more entertaining to watch, but he may need seasoning before he can handle a full year in the nhl. He should be the 1st call up option from utica while playing top pairing minutes.
- NorthNuck

We said this about Hutton last year. I think Stetcher will surprise, and Gudbrandson will allow us to trade Tanev before his NTC kicks in.

There was a feed from SJ, I found it on Reddit, it wasn't the greatest and it was on a site that had more popups than anything, but there was a feed.

I agree, I cant see him being on opening day roster. Like that article posted earlier said, it took 3-4 stand out games for Willie to start considering Hutton as a possibility. I think by the end of the preseason Hutton had played most of the games and consistently brought high level of play. Stecher could do that but they need to audition quite a few defenseman and he is a luxury to the team with his waiver status so I cant see them putting him in the majority of the preseason games

This is not true. He was a relative bright spot on the Oilers awful D and they wanted him to return to the team. He refused to play in Edmonton. I don't care about Larsen one way or another but give the guy a few months not 1 preseason game

What are you going on about Lefty? Stetcher is better than Edler and Carcone is better than Erikkson. Didn't you watch the games?
