So I saw on the intermission report that Rieder wants out of Arizona. Ship a 3rd out for his rights. That wouldn't be enough, but if we had a contract with him before the trade what would his worth be?

(frank), why not?

oilers can offer sheet him
- homiedclown

And the Sabres retain him. All that does is make them do the negotiating for us. They'll pay a bit more but it's no big deal. Not to mention it won't happen.

Exactly. In order for an offer sheet to work, you need to exceed market value by a country mile.

I did.

I still think you are seeing them at there peak right now. If you look at the past few drafts, and past few WJC's, which represent the younger talent, you are seeing a more diverse class of young talent.

The first Canadian defensemen didn't go until the middle of the 1st round in 2016, they didn't have one go until pick 18 in 2015. They already have an inferior blue line to Sweden.

That doesn't mean they wont be favored, or even win the next tourney, whether that's the Olympics, WJC or WCOH

Right now I'd expect the Sabres to match any offer that isn't out of this world. If they negotiate him for 6.5 we sign. 7.5 we sign. Once they get above 7.5 the cost is 2 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd. No one is trading those pieces so that they can overpay for him.

Risto has very few options.

Agreed on Fasching. Guy played physical, used his body, and didn't look slow at all. Also had some good passes. I'm excited to see him in Rochester.

And Franson was good most of the game but did get burned by Nylander for a quality shot. Also, not a fan of Franson taking #6. The other day I saw it and thought I had missed us signing Weber again.

What did Guhle do? I barely saw us in our zone so I didn't really get to see

It looks like Guhle is a player who is trying to perform with the weight of expectations for the first time, as he came out of nowhere last year in camp to nearly make the team, but this year he is expected to be as good as he was last year, only better.

Most players have to get over that the first time they encounter it.

Morning everyone. Been in Chicago all week with my new company.

A few things

I know Risto skated with the team and although they aren't close yet I would start to seriously consider doing a bridge deal with him.

Watched the game last night in spurts and thought the guy I love to hate, 'Cement Skater Franson' actually looked decent, as was Bogo.

Nilsson was sharp but Guhle seemed to struggle. It is probably best he goes back to Junior and I would use Falk as the 7th D right now.

Grant looked really good. Could he beat out COR for a spot?

Guhle seemed out of place physically. Last year we saw him and were so excited to see the development and now I'm not seeing the chance he sticks it out even to get the 9 games

Actually the office is out in the western suburbs, real nice area. I'll work at home but travel to the office regularly. I've adopted the Hawks as my second team.

Agreed. He seemed like he was trying to do too much, trying to impress the coaches.

regarding guhle

there is no open spot with the current roster, which is why I think nelson, franson and gorges mix and match the bottom pair this year

unless guhle played lights out, he wasn't making the team

the downside, if a sabre d man is injured long term, creating a spot for him, I doubt we can bring him back up

That has to be some clown from the Toronto media. They are always trying to equate some false equivalency.

But, if that person wanted to take the us up on it. We could have USA hockey play Canada hockey in a 3 game series. Then USA basketball play Canada basketball in a 3 games series. We'll compare strength of victory between the countries. Hell we can add baseball and football too if they really want to go.

to be fair, the country of canada has 3 million fewer people than the state of california.

Can't bring him up from Jr. It's not allowed anymore. And he's not AHL eligible yet.
