Pre season= relevant

world cup = non-relevant.

It's pretty simple.

I'd rather watch highly skilled hockey players play at 65% than bum prospects and ahl'ers play at 100%.

Whenever we have some legit prospects I kind of like watching the preseason games. It was nice to get an extended look at Jarry, Prowe and Guentzel. I thought a couple other guys looked pretty decent too. I think all three have a real good shot at becoming NHL players. I was a little disappointed DP didn't play. If I were Sullivan, DP would play in every game. Might as well get him a ton of TOI in the preseason 'cause he'll be riding the pine once the season starts.

Four Goal Fleury made his first appearance a couple of days ago and Jarry had a shutout Is this what to expect??????????
- holeinone

Is this what we have to expect from you all season? You're going to be MIA most blogs because Fleury will play well but as soon as he lets in a weak one we get to hear all about how smart you think you are.

You sound exactly like that jfks guy and Johnny Wrath, so sure were a crap team... havent seen much of them lately, hopefully the same happens with you after Fleury has a great season.

"(Wednesday) against Chicago, we saw what he (Guentzel) is,” Rutherford said. “He’s a left winger at this level. I think that is what is going to give him the best chance to succeed in the NHL. I think he’ll be very good in that spot. He’s so smart that he can play anywhere, but that will be best."

Rutherford on Guentzel from DKOPS today. The article also mentioned that they want to lock up Bonino.

I think that is the way to go. If Guentzel isn't a center, they have nobody who can potentially give them what Bonino can offensively, let alone his defensive work. And Guentzel becomes possibly the top option to snag a spot next to Crosby or Malkin in the near future. Lock down the top 3 centers and let Sprong, Guentzel, Wilson, Sheary, Rust, Simon, etc battle to fill 3 or 4 spots on cheap contracts for the next 2 to 3 years.

That is the best possible outcome for everyone... That he becomes an effective LW. If he develops into a top 6 LW then giddy the F up.

I thought Sid was the best player. Marchant was very good as well. It was hard typing that last sentence, it was.

Marchand was pretty good but I believe Sid was the key on that line. Bergeron was good too. Hard working players with some talent always do well with Sid.

So here's a fantasy hockey question...which defenseman would you keep of these two. (we keep one F,D,G each year)

Dustin Byfuglien - 2015-16 points 298.4
Mark Giordano - 2015-16 points 268.2

Scoring is:
G 3.5 points
A 2.5 points
BS .2 points
+/- Plus Minus 1 point
Hits .25 points
SOG .2 points

These are in addiition to the 3.5 you get for the goal(s):
HT Hat Tricks 3 points
GWG /GDG 2 points
PPG 1 point
SHG 2 points
SHOG 1 point

supposedly the organization is having a big debate on resigning bonino while knowing its going to be 5 years 20/25 area. The pro-side is the window will be open for those years and the 3 center model wins cups. The negative is we have 3 highly paid centers for the positions they fill.

If guentzel and sprong are providing cheap wings and bonino takes a little discount I think resigning is the best way to get to the cup. Finding another cheap 3C replacement is easier said than done. FWIW I think statistically/analytically bonino grades out as a 2C playing 3C.

Other teams have taken notice of the importance of a dominant 3C. Backes in boston. lars eller to the caps for 2 2nd round picks and only 2 years of control. Eller also comes with a 3.5 cap hit with cash costs that are 4.5 for the final 2 years. Eller I would rate below bonino. I think Backes rates above bonino but not 100% sure on that.

Tough call. I have been a big fan of Giordano's for a while. If things were equal, I'd go with him because I feel Calgary will be better than Peg and will score more, assuming JG is back in the fold. That said, while Giordano played 82 games last year, he has a propensity to get injured and miss 20 games a year. That fact would make me consider Buff more than normal.

I couldn't agree with this any more and the beauty is that we have a full season to gauge if players like Guentzel, Simon, Sheary, Archibald, Bleuger and others will be able to fill those roles. Replacing top end talent is near impossible to do without rebuilding through losing so I have always been of the mindset that you maximize the Crosby/Malkin/Letang Era by doing everything possible to win as many Cups as possible in the short term and then suck it up for a few lean years while they restock the top end talent with high draft picks.

Did the pens not get championship rings this year? I've seen nothing about it and I've been excited to see the design since they won.

We have a 14 team league...Malkin is my F keeper...I have the 14 and 15 picks (won last year) so I am thinking I'll grab an F and D with those picks.

I'm thinking/hoping if I keep Dusty...I can probably get Giordano with my 14/15 pick...unless there is a better D out there.
