then I missed it if you told me.
so you think laughton would get you a pouliot in return? I disagree there. don't think the pens make that deal.
How does laughton help a team whose window is now? honest question what am I missing here?
Right now he gets you a mid rd pick or another guy was a prospect but is more suspect at this time; maybe a change of scenery deal. I wouldn't trade him for a mid rd pick just yet as need to see a little more. Not a guy I am going to worry about though if he is moved. - rinaldo
Again, the question was "What type of player." Maybe not Pouliot, but a similar player: highly-touted but has failed to live up to the hype.
He helps a team in the present over Nichushkin because he's in North America. If nothing else, he's a 13th forward/top-of-the-list AHL injury call-up. If a team wants to win now, that player serves them better than one who is not contractually able to play for them. |

The only point I'm making is that playing him on the third line is the ideal situation because he'll get around 12 minutes of ES ice time along with 2-3 PP2 time. That's pretty much exactly how you'd want to break a player in.
I'm not saying it's a done deal yet. I just think he'd need to play his way off the roster at this point. - PhillySportsGuy
I don't think he's earned the spot like Provorov has yet. I'm looking forward to the next few preseason games to see what he can do. It's a numbers game more than anything. Can the team afford to keep both Laughton/Konecny in bottom 6 roles if neither are PK contributors? I think those concerns are bigger factors than if Konecny can handle the NHL, 82 games, etc |

I don't think that Provorov has earned a spot either. If anything, I think Myers is pushing Provorov for that elusive spot. |

I don't think 3rd line ES minutes and 2nd PP unit time would be an issue. As long as he earned consistent icetime.
As far as the last comment, I think it's the opposite. He has to still play his way onto the team. He hasn't done that yet. He has to convince Hextall to keep him. |

Also, I do like the mix of players he'd potentially play with on that line....all of those guys are roughly around the same age and play with a bit of an edge, but all have offensive upside. - johndewar
exactly. It would be a nice fit. If he ends up performing very well, they can always move him up and put Raffl on the 3rd line. |

well maybe I am wrong I don't remember Laughton ever being highly touted. Again could be wrong wasn't draft reports saying tops out as 3rd line type?
He doesn't help a team if he doesn't make said team. Him sitting in the press box does nothing as well. Right now laughton is a dime a dozen player you can find anywhere. |

So you'd bump Weise to line 4 and make a line of Laughton - Cousins - Konecny?
I'd find a way to get him with Couts and Jake after they are back and see if you strike gold. Then you drop Raffl to 3 and Laughton to either 4 or Allentown. |

Weise isn't being bumped down to 4RW. They signed him to a 4 year deal with the intention of being 3RW. With such a logjam, you can see why that was maybe a curious signing (and I don't dislike him), but I don't think he's going anywhere. |

weise, read, and raffl seem a little redundant to me. |

I think Myers still has filling out to do and I think Provorov is just further along in on ice development. Provorov has grown into his frame at 19 yoa. |

The Weise signing to me is a clue on how down the organization has gotten on Read. |

provorov is locked in - Just5
I am saying he's locked in until the last preseason game right now. But if he keeps playing at the level he has so far he should be locked for the season. He's better than Streit, Manning, or Schultz which puts him in the top 6 |

He may make the team, but he is not locked in yet. A 19 year old player doesn't make an NHL team after a few weeks of camp, and couple of pre season games against non NHL level competition. |

Read was put on notice with the signing of Weise. I think he can still play here but it's going to take a lot of work for Read to earn a spot above the Gordon line. |

You could go a bunch of different ways but I see a middle 6 combination of Raffl, Coots, Simmonds, Konecny, Cousins, Weise working out. I think Read and Laughton are a rung below...hello line 4/ press box |

He's more talented that Manning or Schultz, but that doesn't mean he's going to make the team. Streit is a proven veteran NHL defenseman. Provorov is not. |

He does when you consider the year he came off, CHL defenseman of the year (Which Hexy talks of factoring in) of and his overall growth chart as a player. He's on to the next step.
It is not a smoke and mirrors camp, preseason games. If he proves he's better than other Dmen in camp and the preseason, it's because he is based off recent success regardless of the level of play |
