Brush the rust off veteran players. Give young players a chance to impress coaches for the hopes that they make the roster cut. Gives coaches opportunities to adjust line combinations, see player strengths/weaknesses.
Among others. |

I know it's only been really 1 or 2 games, but after last night's impressive performance from TK, which current NHL players on our roster do you think TK is or would be better than when it comes down to finalizing the roster? If you have a list of Read, Vv, Bellemare, Laughts, Cousins, and Konecny, where does Travis rank in your opinion? - arichardson22
In my opinion that's not a reasonable question. There are roles on NHL teams. There are also positions. For example if Konecny is a winger, and Cousins is a center them they are not in competition for a roster spot. Same with Belle mare as he is slated to play on the 4th line, and I don't think Hextall will keep Konecny to play on the 4th line. It's not about talent. Konecny is obviously more talented than all of them. |

I'm excited about the kids coming along and I am just thrilled to get to watch hockey again and enjoy getting to see the kids play but I don't go overboard for these early pre-season games because of the rosters the Flyers are playing against. esp with the World cup going on, teams aren't even dressing the minimum of 8 NHL players. The teams are basically minor league teams with a few NHL guys. the last few pre-season games will be a little better indicator.
On another note, I really rather see Giroux here than be a healthy scratch with Canada. He is missing out on game time and team practices. at least Bellemare and Streit are playing. |

Konecny looked good. Always around the puck. love how the Flyers finally seem to have a deep prospect pool finally.
I know Konecny making the Flyers might be a long shot but funny thing is I think if he would be on the roster the roster has a better shape to it.
Schenn - Giroux - Simmonds
Konecny - Couturier - Voracek
Raffl - Cousins - Weise
Laughton/Read - Gordon - Lyubinov/Vandevelde
But I do understand guys like Read might get a little longer leash as he is a vet. For me though he hasn't done much to think he deserves a spot unless he has a couple really solid games. |

But also by your standards, these are not NHL teams these guys are playing against. So how does one gauge a players likelihood to make the team out outright if we are not seeing them play against NHL competition?
Seriously.
When I watched last nights game, it was obvious to me that Konecny was hands down the best player on the ice. He was everywhere, and everytime he had the puck he was dangerous. There were certainly NHL players out there last night. He stood out above them all. - jak521
He should've been. He's a high level talent playing against a non NHL roster. Macdonald was the best defenseman on the ice, and has looked great the last two games. What does that mean against that level of competition? Playing later in the previous season will give us a better look. We know he has talent and ability with the puck
What is best for the player?

The thing with Konecny is that he has to outplay the top 6 to get a roster spot if you are trying to get in Hexy's/Hack's head
So basically its to knock Simmonds, Schenn, Voracek, or Laughton(?)/Raffl out of one of the top 6 wing spots.
The next question is can he fulfill a bottom six role as the player he is? There is no doubt he is a skilled kid, and more skilled than any of those bottom six we have. But is he suited for that role?
I am willing to say yes, get him on the team and let it work itself out. I have no problem with him taking a roster spot from Chris Vandevelde. Vandevelde can be replaced in his role by any number of players, Bellamare, Laughton, Gordon, Wiese, Read, Cousins..... |

seems like the top 6 would be schenn, Giroux, Simmonds, Coots, Voracek and Raffl, no? so him being a wing, you would think he would need to beat out raffl because he certainly won't beat out Schenn, Simmonds or Voracek. |

This is it. I place him on Couts wing and let Raffl bump down to the third line and that bumps Cousins or Laughton whoever is the wing on that line down to Gordon's line. Laughton was announced at center Tuesday night so I'm not sure what they plan is with Cousins or Laughton. To me that makes us a stronger team. Of course for the first 3 games Raffl could slide up and play with G and Simmer. We've got options and I'm all for seeing if one works to keep the kid around. He had a strong camp last year and is looking like he could repeat that this year. |

Giroux/Couturier not included since they are centers.
But yes, most likely would have to beat out Raffl |

I really like the look of that second line, imo it could outscore the first if tk can handle the physical grind of nhl life. |

I just think it makes the roster look more complete. I like Raffl but I don't like him in the top 6 where he is needed to be relied on to produce. I like it more as a 3rd line wing where is production is a plus to his two way game. |

To evaluate, over the "long" haul. A sample set of one isn't a good sample set from which to make decisions, which is why my answer includes "this morning" as over time things can/could/may change.
Also, to be 100% clear, my comment does not mean I am down on TK. I am not. |

I still think he gets moved this year. If Cousins continues to play well in the middle I think it bumps Laughton as a trade piece or he could get bumped by a more natural winger.
But you never know. maybe a move to the wing helps laughton kind of how it has helped Schenn become a solid player. |
