I agree. He's a good candidate, if they don't take one of our goalies. I half wonder if they'd protect Weise over Raffl.... - Mononoke
Wouldn't it be funny if Weise went all Knuble and started scoring a ton of goals... we'd be in a panic. |

As many Super Bowls as the Eagles will win this season. - Mononoke
The Eagles have never won a Super Bowl, and I have serious doubts that they ever will. Once they get an owner who cares more about winning than making money, they'll have a better shot. |

I think that's the entire point. They just can be as good as so and so. They have to excel to the point where Hextall has no choice. Otherwise, they go back to juniors. Hextall would rather over cook them, than rush them. - MJL
You have to be careful of overcooking anyone else. Schultz, Streit and Amac have already fallen through the grates. |

If that's the case, they have players in the AHL, like Brennan and whoever gets waived, to take those spots. |

I think SO FAR, they have been among the best players on the ice for either team. Hopefully it continues and we dont have to worry about this discussion any more.
- MBFlyerfan
Based on the level of competition to this point, in my opinion that was expected. So far, so good. |

Not a factor. All are capable NHL players

It doesn't matter where you move Streit around the grille, he's the one that's always going to flame up no matter what you do. Sometimes you just have to remove them from the rack and feed it to the dog. |

They will have to prove they are better than the veterans that are going through the motions before the season starts, not those scrubs from other teams trying to show they deserve a spot in the NHL! |

Exactly. Excel and make it too difficult to be sent back gets you (up to) a 9 game tryout with the big team. Evaluation will continue (up to) that 9th game; make it too difficult to be sent down and you can stay with the big team, otherwise you're going down.
It's really not complicated. |

Streit is that potato you wrapped in foil that you forgot was in the grill until the cookout was already over:

Hexy has been adamant in the past saying he doesn't believe in the regular season tryouts. You either make it in preseason or you don't. At least that's what he has said. |

Well, yes, but if he's proven wrong, and you can't hack in to start the season, he does have a 9-game safety net. |

I don't believe for one second that if one of the kids makes the opening day roster that they are a lock to make it past game 9. |

Knuble didn't have his breakout season until age 30 haha. Dale Weise is but a young lad of 28 and already had something of a breakout year. Tbh he looked good in his preseason game, lucky goal aside. Funny thing is, he was possession average in Montreal but scored a lot. In Chicago he was ripped for his scoring going down the tubes, but his relative possession stats were better than ever. I wonder if in a heavy forechecking system, he won't be bad. |

Provorov has nothing left to learn in the WHL, he'd probably get bored from dominating again for another full season. |

I'm not sure about that. He still has a Memorial Cup and WJC title to try and win.
There's no doubt he would dominate. Keeping himself motivated is another key part of development. Brandon is set to be a force in the WHL again so him going back isn't the end of the world. It sure didn't hurt the future stars from the 2003 draft class that were sent back to junior as 19 year olds. |

Provorov needs to pick a fight with Sam Morin, win, tear off his jersey a la Hulk Hogan and declare himself overlord of Earth. Then Hexy may be swayed to start him as the 6th. |

But why send him back? He looks pretty NHL-ready, it's not like there's concern about his ability, maturity or size. He'll get to learn from NHL vets if he's stays up. The Flyers will get to monitor him more closely as well and control his workout/eating habits, film study, etc.
They can give him easier minutes, at least for 9 games to start the season and then work from there. |
