Drew Doughty played 81 games in his age 19 season. Not that it has anything to do with Provorov, but he finished 3rd in the Norris in his age 20 season. Doubt that happens if he doesnt play the year prior |

It pretty much does. How he performed, or how he can perform against junior level opponents, isn't going to carry a lot of weight at this point. - MJL
It really won't. Hexy will make sure of that. |

This is an important factor as far as I am concerned. You are talking about letting Streit and Schultz walk. It would be prudent to give Provorov any extra experience he can handle. - YuenglingJagr
That's 2 for sure walks and who knows what will happen with MDZ. I'd like to keep him, but if he has another good season there may be a team willing to overpay for him during offseason that won't fit our current or future cap plans. |

Not to mention if Morin is a 2nd half addition, maybe Myers joins the big club next season, Sanheim too....it's best to try to stagger them. - Mononoke
Good point... sounds like Prov should stay more and more after all of today's discussions |

I feel like people still view 3rd lines as "checking lines" when they really aren't. Your top 9 should be made up of scorers and two-way players. - PhillySportsGuy

The 2013-14 Ducks, with their forwards in their prime, had Lindholm as an age 20 rookie (like Provorov would be), Vatanen as a rookie (albeit a little older), Fowler as a sophomore. They had a few veterans surrounding them. Finished as the #1 team in the West that year, lost in the West Semis. Sometimes you just got to Carson Wentz this mother(frank)er. |

Weise isn't being bumped down to 4RW. They signed him to a 4 year deal with the intention of being 3RW. With such a logjam, you can see why that was maybe a curious signing (and I don't dislike him), but I don't think he's going anywhere. - Mononoke
When's the expansion draft again? I heard Vegas is looking for some jam. |

I agree. He's a good candidate, if they don't take one of our goalies. I half wonder if they'd protect Weise over Raffl.... |

As would I. The fact is, whether they start this year or next year or the year after, at some point they will be rookies in the NHL and as prepared as you think a player is, it's always like jumping into cold water. There will be mistakes, there will be learning required, there will be ups and downs. The questions simply are: are they physically ready? Mentally ready? Are their skills NHL level? Did they dominate lower levels of competition? Have they showcased this in preseason? And finally, is this the best route for their development?
There's no point delaying if you answer "yes" to those questions. Imagine Provorov as a player next season with 1 NHL season under his belt vs. another year of juniors and domination. Or Konecny. They'd be miles apart from themselves as players. Patience is good with these kids and absolutely necessary for some. But there's no need to be timid evaluating case by case. - Mononoke
I look at it this way. Even not playing against the "NHL" level lineups so far, they are still playing against much better competition than they would face in juniors, and are excelling up to this point. If they continue to excel and even dominate, Hexy has no choice.

These last 4 games or whatever, with the AHL scrubs making way for the NHL players, can put an end to any of those doubts. |

MDZ - Gudas
Ghost - Myers
Provorov - Sanheim
Schultz, Big Mac and Manning riding the booster club school bus. Streit on an ice floe adrift in the Arctic.
It's in the bag. |

Yeah, but how many Stanley Cups did the Ducks win that season? |

I think that's the entire point. They just cant be as good as so and so. They have to excel to the point where Hextall has no choice. Otherwise, they go back to juniors. Hextall would rather over cook them, than rush them. |

And in the end, if they falter and get sent down, its not the end of the world. Well, maybe for some fans, but not for the players or the organIzation.
Next season will be quite remarkable with the possibility of the team getting much younger and better all at once as these kids force themselves in to the picture.
Next season You can see a very real possibility of Provorov, Sanhiem, Morin, Konecny, Myers, and even Hagg all being ready for prime time.....or the possibility of one or more being dealt for an NHL ready player who fits another need.
This team is going to get very good very fast in my opinion, and stay good for a while.

But Hextall doesn't want them to be good AHL/slightly above average NHL players if they're going to make the team. If they keep playing at the same level when they're facing lineups of NHL regulars, then you'll have a better idea of if they make it or not. |

I think SO FAR, they have been among the best players on the ice for either team. Hopefully it continues and we dont have to worry about this discussion any more.
