I think it just comes down to some people don't like certain players and will find any reason to justify getting rid of them. Everyone does it, and will continue doing so...ala, Sbisa, Burrows...need i say more, - Makita

I agree, my point exactly, I'd like to see a player "like Dorsett" but not Dorsett and certainly not for 2.6mil.
Do you seriously not see him falling down often (for no reason), over skating/mishandling pucks, not scoring/5% shooting, taking stupid penalties, unnecessarily fighting on a regular basis?
All I'm saying is that his position could be filled by someone else and they could bring a very similar product minus all his deficiencies. Gaunce, Zalewski, Skille, Labate come to mind as cheaper/more skilled replacements. (BTW, this more about efficiency that cap issues) - Brooks_Light
Seriously. No I don't. |

That's not true.
I like Burrows, Dorsett, Hansen and Sbisa, but I want them to get rid of them.

Someone earlier in this thread mentioned Lu and the panthers returning to Vancouver for a game last season, and the first memory to come to mind is Dorsett having Daniel's back.
I wish Dorsett was taller, had better hands, was a better player but there is one thing I can't complain about is his heart and commitment to the team. Every Canuck knows that Dorsett has their back. |

Don't get me started on Burrows I'd rather dress Corrado as a 13th forward - CanuckDon
I agree with you 10000000% on Burrows & Sbiza (contracts) - and I do agree that every team needs a player LIKE Dorsett AND honestly his contract isn't that bad, its certainly not the center of my argument. Its just the part you've been focusing on, yet I've mentioned a ton of other reasons why he's not a great player. Anyways, lets move on |

That was me. That game was a joke as everyone was too busy welcoming Luongo back. Dorsett was looking at his team mates with so much WTF, this is our oppostion not a hug-fest. |

The county club mentality of past Canuck teams was infuriating Hopefully with all the roster turnover those days are over |

If that was the case, then Dorsett would be making even more than he does now.
He is a guy you have to lead your bottom 6, and he makes about what other team's guys do. You look at Brian Boyle, Winnick, Kruger, Roussel, Vermette/Thompson, Chris Neil's old contract and Chimera/Clutterbuck are all in the $2-$3M range. They dont make sense in the cap world, but most teams have one |

Interesting read on Rodin. For me, he is the biggest wildcard. |

I remember Daniel having words with someone on the Florida bench and it could have escalated and Dorsett was immediately right there with Daniel.
What I like about Dorsett is he is always ready to backup a team mate. no hesitation. and it really isn't backing up a team mate, he wants to put himself in there and protect his team mates and take the brunt of it.
I'm guessing Dorsett is popular among his team mates.

I agree with what you are saying and the guy is definitely great to have on the team for some reasons. That said he is overpaid for what he brings and I really wish he was able to intimidate the opposition if he is going to play the tough guy role.
Guys who can and do hit hard are the purest form of intimidation in the league and I don't think he can.
I think when he is playing well, it's because he is skating well, fore-checking aggressively and playing well on defense.
I can't stand when he decides to get into pissing matches and then gets his ass handed to him. His first season I liked what I saw out of him, last year he picked more fights than stuck up for teammates.

Agreed - to me Rodin has a similar skillset as Sven. Optimistically, it would be great if he put up numbers similar to Svens first year, around 30pts. But realistically, if he makes the team and plays 3rd line minutes, something around 10g 12a would be great. Either way, he's an exciting piece to the puzzle.

I thought they both played well last night but not surprised they have been sent down. I really hope they sign D'Aoust to a contract or at the very least an AHL contract like Zalewski got last year. His end to end last night was exciting but I thought he had quite a few nice setup and strong plays back checking. |

I don't think there's many spots open. They both played well, especially Carcone, but they're young and they'll have to put in their time. |

Last season was just messed up. I thought Prust was going to be more of a grinder, but he just dropped the gloves all the time and didn't do much more after his injury. Dorsett, coming off that double sports hernia surgery, wasn't the same as he was the previous season.
I think Dorsett is overpaid but nobody up to this point has made him expendable. You'd think there would be more bottom 6 guys who could play a similar game and be willing to drop the gloves to stay in the league, but evidently that isn't the case.

Skille is really the only guy they have who could "replace" him and I while he has looked decent I don't see that being realistic. I just hope Dorsett does the things that make him a good player.
Labate and LaPlante are the only other guys in the system that I can think of that would play that type of role but they are a ways off.

Ya, I agree it is definitely getting more crowded in Utica.
It's good though, that team is looking like one of most complete team they have had since their inception/return.
They are still lacking high end forwards but you know green will wring everything he can out of them.

I liked what I saw of Labate last night, not sure if Skille plays the tough guy role, but he has a good snipe shot.
I think Dorsett will be hard to move from that spot, but there are options there for sure. |
