Don't believe this is a response to a possible long-term Boychuk injury, simply adding to depth. Seidenberg can play both sides.

Impossible. Only one man in the league can do that.

I hope Mayfield still gets his share of minutes in, even if they go with 8 D, which they've done before. I agree with most of you, I trust Seidenberg out there much more than Mayfield. But I'll never trust Mayfield if he never gets some time in the NHL to screw up a little and learn.

The only way to get experience is to play. I see Cappy giving him some lesser role minutes. Maybe a cupcake game here or there early on. If injuries hit, then it's out of the frying pan and into the fire. Definitely a good signing though.

This years vet d man acquisition. Did have a 30pt and 32pt season so may have some added offense and experience playing with Halak in tournament may be a benefit to being on Isles team. Considering loss of man games on d and need to rest guys down the stretch, a good depth signing.

I'm probably wrong here, I know this.

BUT

I just have this odd feeling that now we're only a few hundred thousand away from the cap ceiling....someone is getting shipped out. It's not logical, historically, but I just have this gut feeling that it's going to happen.

I don't see any sense in moving Berube (unless someone is really coveting him and overpays big time, which is doubtful). He takes up no cap space and is nice to have in case Halak goes down again.

I'm really hoping Barzal sticks, at least for 9 games.

Indifferent on Quine, I guess. I think he's earned the chance to be a spare forward...but sending him to BPT wouldn't be the end of the world either.

Not certain, but I think there's a rule that says teams cannot trade players that they picked up off waivers.

not in the first year, but now that we've had him (and resigned him) I don't believe there's any restrictions on what we do with berube. I'd send him to the ahl - we dont have room to keep 3 goalies. if we send mayfield down he'll get claimed, so we'll have to keep 8d, which allows us to keep 1 extra forward and no extra goalies.

OK, that makes sense. I wouldn't be shocked to see Berube get claimed.........even though he didn't look great last night. Could easily be a team out there that isn't happy with their back-up and wants to give Berube a shot.

What NHL team needs a back-up that has barely no NHL experience?

Don't know. But Berube led his AHL team to the Calder Cup, so that makes him an interesting prospect........especially if he can be had for free off waivers.

If he gets claimed, so be it. He's far from a key piece imo.

It would nice to have him for insurance if and when Halak gets injured, but I agree, he's not a key piece. Looking forward to Sorokin getting over here.....

He would be nice to have in case of injury. Sorokin will hopefully be taking over in a few years.

Seidenberg is a great pick up by garth because if boychuks injury turns out to be long term or gets worse they cant have 2 rookies in the line up on a nightly basis and that goes for hamonic dehaan hickey or leddy too. To hard to make playoffs with an all rookie 3rd pair or even split up. Hes staying as a 6/7 guy now who they move out up front or in goal will be interesting

I don't get the concern over berube. Some here act as if he the next Carey price. He is ok. Greiss is way better.
As for mayfield. Tough darts. Seidenberg is better. I'd trade dehaan for right piece.

I hope they don't shaft Pulock though. His kid is ready. I don't want to give him the Nino treatment. Finally Quine only makes this team if he scores a goal in every remaining game. Which he won't.

Barzal is legit. Ho Sang will be in mix by midseason

It's interesting that staple said cizikas could have 2 new wingers this season.

Thats because Cizikas is not a real "4th line guy". I've been saying it for a while. He can play.....he's legit.

I don't know if most realize what a great pickup Seidenberg really was. To have him as opposed to a Brian Strait is a huge difference. You'd have to think that Boychuk had his ear in coming to New York. When's the last time a player chose the isles over 9 other teams when it wasn't about big money? Things are looking up for once.

Well, we pretty much all were saying it was a great signing yesterday. Gives lots of options, especially in case of injury. Could also be a signing to facilitate a trade. A broken yoyo is an improvement over Strait. Glad Winnipeg finally got their man.

He is a great pick up only if he is utilized properly. If he is misused he becomes a bad pick up real quick. A lot on here thought Zidlicky was a great pick up when we first signed him. That changed...

Amazing what a franchise player and nice ammenities will do to attract talent and all it takes are a few signings and the rest starts to fall into place now lets hope our coach knows what to do
