I think this signing is a precursor to another move. With the expansion draft coming, the Isles can only protect 4 dmen. Now, that looks like Pulock, Hammer, Leddy & Boychuk. Meaning CDH and/or Hickey are going to be unprotected. One of them may be getting moved for a forward now that Siedenberg is in the fold.

Boychuk doesn't need to be protected he has a NTC.

Edit; just read the other posts he's an automatic protection. Urgh

Maybe at next year's deadline, if he wants his career to come full-circle.

I can see Seidenberg rotating in and out of the lineup giving guys like JB a break every once in a while or if Pulock struggles a little.

Management can ask him to "waive" the clause for the purpose of the expansion draft, but I highly doubt that Boychuk is going to do that and have even the slightest risk of getting selected after he's already building a brand-new house in Garden City.

It's not likely he'd be picked with his contract and injuries, but I doubt he wants to roll the dice if he doesn't have to.

Yeah he won't waive it. Snow will TRY and move dehaan and or Hickey. Or at least he better be trying to do that.

Its certainly possible he's looking to package DeHaan and someone.

Agreed. I wouldn't waive it if I were him.

Dehaan, Nelson & a pick. What would that get you?

Trouba

For real though, depending on what the pick is...something pretty solid. Not a superstar obviously, not no reason those 3 assets couldn't land us a nice winger.

I'm very curious what wing that package could bring back? I would give up a #1 pick for the right player.

Obviously it does depend on the pick. Guess I could've specified. But yeah, I definitely think it could fetch that #1 wing we're always talking about.

Yak, is still reportedly on the block. I know a lot on here don't like him but maybe a change of scenery does him some good. I also don't think you need Dehaan and Nelson with the pick to get him, maybe just Dehaan and a pick or forward prospect not named Barzal.

I don’t mind this signing. Mayfield isn’t a guy I’d trust to play regular minutes if someone gets hurt, and while it means he goes down to the ahl (can’t see us carrying 2 extra d) it does give us a better vet to swap in when needed. I don’t think they signed him to play a full time role on d, so I don’t think this is a signing made to enable snow to trade someone else. Likely just depth.

Wait 6, this could help initiate the big trade Snow is making by the start of the season.

I’d be more interested in yak if we didn’t already have prince and quine. I don’t know that it’s worth the risk to add him. I’d rather move for an established top 6 rw if we make a trade.

Lol, stuff it

I still think there’s a good chance he does make a move, but I don’t think this signing was key to make it

I kinda agree with you 1 mil. on a vet that can play both sides for a team hoping to make a push this year. No brainer, good signing by Garf.

Gonna lose Dehaan probably anyway. Just think Yak has a lot of talent and with JT, it just might bring the best out of him. Kid has hands and can skate so...
